Daddy-Friendly Baby Changing Areas

Why is it that, so often, if a public place has a baby changing table it is in the ladies loo?

Some places, sensibly, have a changing table in the disabled loo as there is generally enough space for one - - and these are unisex. But this is far from the norm.

Do they think daddies don't do changing? That daddies never happen to be out on their own with a baby who needs changing? Or is it a conspiracy to ensure mums do the lion's share of that unenviable task?

I, for one, think this ought to change. It would be a simple thing to amend legislation to require public places to have a changing area accessible to fathers as well as mothers. The cost implication would be minimal.

If you agree, please sign the Downing Street petition petitions.number10.gov.uk/BabyChanging/

Quite right. You rarely see loos with baby change signs on the womens and mens, though I think I did somewhere recently - might have been at one of the WWT places.

The other issue is, if the disabled loo is radar-locked, where is a little girl out with daddy supposed to go?

JackBauer · 14/01/2010 22:30

Absolutley, and what grimma said too, DH takes DD1 out sometimes. She has to go to the loo on her own and is only 3.11 as he doesn't like taking her into the mens (for obvious reason) while he lurks outside the women's door like som weirdo.
he has asked granny types to help her before now as she can't even turn on taps/flush by herself.

Bump - don't suppose everyone saw this last night.

John Lewis have them and other main shopping centres have unisex ones-I don't suppose out of town centres do that much

TBH this doesn't annoy me so much any more.

If the baby change is in ladies, I just go in. At the end of the day, you're all in cubicles so it's not like I'm going to see anything.

I should point out that I haven't ever got so much as a funny look from you lady-types for doing this.

More likely I get approving "what a good dad" smiles for changing his nappy at all!

Chil1234 · 01/02/2010 15:49

Absolutely tegid. This is 2010 not 1910!! I'm sure not one single woman would turn a hair, let alone object, if a man went into the ladies' loo in order to change a nappy or help a young child. We don't need a petition, just a little commonsense.
