Do they really close schools? Have never seen that before - is normally village halls and church centres (mind you used to live in back of beyond with population of 4876, so perhaps that has something to do with it).

I think it is less usual these days. I have a regular booking at a church hall which may be affected if there is a May election.

they only close the nursey here. still it's a waste of time as only about 12% vote anyway

They closed DD's primary school. I was wondering that actually, as they only used the hall, and surely that can be left unused by the school for one day, you don't even go past classrooms or anything.

on 2 estates in my town i know of 2 junior schools that are closed for elections. but there are at least 2 other polling stations on both estates too,

so i dont get why they use the schools. surly i would be better id there streets were split into 2 groups instead of 3.

its not like everyone votes anyway, and the stations from what ive seen over the years are never busy,

the one i go to i have never seen another person in there when i vote.

God knows why they would completely close the schools anyway, could they not just use one of the halls (with external doors obv so you don't have random strangers marauding around the school).

Seems ott to shut the school.

I think local authorities try to avoid using schools for polling stations but sometimes they are the only suitable building in a polling district with disabled access, parking etc.

They do often only use one small part of the school but I imagine there are issues with vehicle access and the number of people on school premises.
