As to the nonsense about ‘anyone with enough money can campaign’ - are you not aware of simple electoral rules around funds for campaigns? It’s normal in countries with a figurehead president. All candidates have the same limits . It’s not complicated.

And btw- the Windsors are extremely political !
They spend millions on PR to fool the gullible . They have been shown to interfere in politics , they use the official secrets Act and exclude themselves from FOI as and when to hide whatever they want hidden!

I read (skimmed over as it was not surprising to me....) that Camilla's sister is/was being paid from the coffers of a charity with Royal connections for PR or something. Yep, I'm sure she needs it as she is on her uppers. Who else on the periphery is benefitting from this kind of largesse?

Anyway, nothing we can do but rage about it all. Parliament needs to take the lead and slowly, slowly catchee monkey. But they won't. Maybe they are hoping for a gong and don't want to upset the sword wielders of the honours list.

Even if it is for repairs and not "funsies" as a pp said, our first concern should be to repairs needed on accomodation for those most in need, not for those who could sell a single jewel from their treasure stores and live handsomly off that for the rest of their lives.

Your example is just one example of many ‘details’

God knows what’s in the wills but I strongly suspect it would blow the ‘happily married/ example to us all/ head of the church’ image up for good .
One thing it would prove is that the Windsors are rinsing this country for every penny they can take . Philip married in without a penny - died a multimillionare. Same with Albert .

There is change coming re politicans and the monarchy and the first MPs to properly harness the public mood - especially among long term voters ie the young - will reap the benefits .

Exactly. The Crown Estate and the Duchies are owned by them as reigning monarch and Prince of wales in “right of the Crown”. THEY ARE NOT THEIR PERSONAL PROPERTY. If the royal family cease to exist, the properties revert back to the Nation.

This 'Its to repair Buckingham Palace has been going on for years. Why is it given to the RF to spend on repairs? They have clearly spent none of the money given to them over the decades keeping up with the maintenance of their many properties, considering how often they end up in rack and ruin, with repairs funded by us. If they don't intend living in Buckingham Palace, hand it over to Historic Royal Palaces to run and spend the money from ticket sales on maintenance. They can have a private wing for offices, State Banquets etc.Where does the revenue from ticket sales currently go? I read somewhere it was The King- a billionnaire who then puts out the begging bowl to fix the palace and all the residences he shoves his family rent free. The Crown Estates really need to be scrutinised far more severely.

No Buck House is going to cost six figures and they only use it for state dinners. It's appalling. Tone deaf doesn't cover it.

I don't believe the repairs to Buck Palace should be at public expense unless the increased tourism revenues from people paying to see inside when it's no longer lived in, which is supposed to be soon, go to the Treasury.

Be fair. William has 3 kids he has to stare at every second of every day, leaving the nannies with nothing to do. Even when they are at school ( boarding school for one) it takes a lot of time to get their tea ready for when they get in and get the car out of the garage to do the school run...

OK. Get rid of the royals and have ownership of BH restored back to the nation and the nation should then rightfully pay for repairs. Until then, Charles the Dim can put his hand in his extremely capacious pockets and pay for it himself.

That’s the point, we (the taxpayers) pay for it but don’t get the benefit of it. Norman Baker said that Charlie gets all the proceeds of visitors paying to tour there. It was the same with Windsor Castle when it caught fire. It was their residence until it needed repairing, then it was the taxpayers’ responsibility.

They are exempt from Freedom of Information requests; their wills are kept secret and the late Queen meddled in parliament to exempt her and her family from 160 laws since 1967. MI5 and the royal family knew all about Lord Louis Mountbatten and his connection to Kincora Boys Home but they brushed it under the carpet, just as they have done with Andrew and Epstein.
