What I would like to ask Reform supporters what are the specific Reform policies they support?

Just that really. I am a Labour voter, and I know what Labour policies I support. I think I know what Conservative and Lib Dem policies their supporters like. I don't know about Reform.

Less than 10 percent of the 'tiny island' is built on.

Good but living in the South East it feels very overcrowded

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 08/05/2026 21:40

Don't you care about our wildlife, or the quality of life for those people already living here?

The standard of living in this country has already dropped in recent years. People have had enough.

I care about housing people. More than being a nimby.

You have a nice house I assume?

Had enough of the brown people?

Yes and I worked for my home, I don't expect to get something for nothing.

Bit of a desperate stretch. Why are you bringing colour into it?

🥱

It isn’t social housing they will build on greenbelt. That land is too expensive.

Well you can tackle the housing problem in two ways:

  1. Less demand- by having fewer people in the country or at least not growing. This can be done in a number of ways less children born, encourage emigration and yes reduce immigration.

  2. increase supply by building more houses - yes wildlife and pretty views are great but I care more about the quality of life for young people unable to afford a home, start a family or being saddled with mortgage debt than I do about Great Crested Newts.

Personally I would be in favour of both less people and more houses.

Which groups of immigrants do you want to stop?

All groups?
The biggest groups (students and those working)?
The smaller groups (asylum seekers illegal)?

How do Reform say they will do this?
What will the impact be?

What I would like to ask Reform supporters what are the specific Reform policies they support? Asked @CurlewKate

I came on here expecting a huge number of Reform voters, sharing the huge positives of Reform policies….where are they?

Celebrating most likely.

1dayatatime · 08/05/2026 21:53

Plummagic · 08/05/2026 21:42

Had enough of the brown people?

This is simply a question of supply and demand.

Skin colour should be completely irrelevant, but worryingly it isn't to you. Why?

Crunched · 08/05/2026 21:53

Zia Yusef is the most impressive person in politics currently.

Leave the ECHR.
Migrants will be needed in the future as population is ageing and birth rate is declining. So, more working migrants will be needed. However, they will need to have secured a job before they are allowed to enter the UK. Switzerland, who have stated they will never become an EU member, has a similar policy.

No one (sensible) has issues with immigration, it is illegal migrants (criminals) that should be unable to receive benefits/avoid British laws.
The NHS in its current form is unsustainable.

I didn't vote Reform but this is what I believe influenced Reform voters.

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 08/05/2026 21:35

Are you hard of thinking?

It's simple mathematics - more people = more housing (and everything else for that matter).

You can't house the world on a tiny island. Why should we?

More simple mathematics. There are around 6000 homes required in my local area to solve the housing shortage. Net migration in 2025 was less than 1000 people last year. Even without those people, 5000 people would be homeless in my area. Immigration has bugger all to do with the housing shortage.

WildGarden · 08/05/2026 21:54

1dayatatime · 08/05/2026 20:40

Land actually covered by residential buildings (houses) in the UK is estimated to be just over 1% of the total land area. While total "urban land" (including roads, gardens, and green spaces) covers around 7% to 8%.

For comparison golf courses occupy more land in England than homes do.

Given how bad golf courses are for the environment it might be a really good idea to build on golf courses. Only 8% of the population play golf regularly. All of us need a roof over our heads.

What about all the net migration before 2025, it has an impact on housing

Feels how? Because the census data doesn’t bear that out at all.

I would say this is another bad loser anti Brexit/Farage thread. However, in response to the OP question, I would comment as follows:

  1. People can vote for whoever they choose. There’s no obligation to explain why.
  2. Immigration has been talked about since the late 60s. Enoch Powels famous rivers of blood speech comes to mind.
  3. Reform policies I like are;
  1. Increase personal allowance to £20K. This will be a big help to those on lower incomes.
  2. Move away from net zero, which only seems to increase energy costs, towards small modular nuclear power plants. France ignored the EU wish to have zero nuclear power and have reaped the benefits as their energy costs are not tied to oil and gas prices.
  3. Stop wasting money on projects like HS2 and the Edinburgh tram system.
  4. Leave the ECHR.
  5. Migrants will be needed in the future as population is ageing and birth rate is declining. So, more working migrants will be needed. However, they will need to have secured a job before they are allowed to enter the UK. Switzerland, who have stated they will never become an EU member, has a similar policy.

Edinburgh trams was a local government policy. The Scottish elections were a national government election. SNP came to power promising to scrap it. They then back tracked on that, and since then the trams have been expanded across more of the city.

DreamyScroller · 08/05/2026 22:03

The scoffers and sneerers never learn, do they. Still seething from Brexit it seems.

Very few people are interested in understanding why people may have chosen to vote Reform. People have already made their minds up that it's the ignorant, thick, hateful bigots who just reckon Nigel would be a top laugh over a pint. They cannot fathom the possibility that intelligent, educated, and well-informed people could vote for something so "crazy" and "fascist" as, for example... wait for it....securing our borders.

In any non-Western culture/nation, Reform-style policies would be considered absolutely obvious, mainstream and uncontroversial. There is nothing hateful about them.

I don't know if accusing someone you don't know of racism when you have no fucking evidence is allowed on here but I've reported your post anyway.

I'm sorry the results today have upset you but you are barking up the wrong tree!

BitOutOfPractice · 08/05/2026 22:07

My colleague told me that the specific policy he voting reform for is the one where Farage said that if they got in he would make sure that every immigration centre would be put into Green constituencies, none would be a reform constituency.

Report away. If it makes you feel better.

namechangedforthisquestion1 · 08/05/2026 22:08

As it stands today I would vote reform (as would the majority of our small area) purely because of the
Solar proposals, one of the biggest in the country planned along with 6 smaller ones either passed or in planning stages. Reform promised to block these kinds of plans especially all in one area

Typical MN moderation. Let the racism stand and delete anyone calling it out.
