Local elections - will Labour fare better in London than national polls suggest?

National polls predict dire results for Labour - with six million voters concentrated in London I'm wondering if things will be as bad as predicted here

I'll be voting Labour with no great enthusiasm

I don't know about Labour faring better, but outside of three or maybe four of the outer London boroughs, expect Reform to do much worse than in many other parts of the country. Lib Dems and Greens may gain a lot of seats in London.

Selloonacup · 14/04/2026 17:12

I suspect they will do better in London than the rest of the country but still lose a lot of seats, especially to the Greens.

Westfacing · 14/04/2026 19:40

Yes, better in London than the rest of the UK but will lose seats to the Greens

It will be particularly interesting to see if they hold on to the former Tory flagship boroughs i.e. Wandsworth, Westminster, and Barnet

Reform are throwing the lot at my London borough (has always been Tory) but the polls seem to indicate Reform might win🤷‍♀️

Labour, Greens etc have no chance.

I don't think they will.

Most of these boroughs are hit by Labour's "mansion tax". I appreciate it's not a matter of councils, but many people in London are pretty upset about it.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 27/04/2026 20:33

It will be worse that expected for them.

The question is which way the votes will go.

Green in the North, but what about the Ws?

Enfieldlady · 27/04/2026 20:33

In my borough, Enfield, Labour are expected to lose ground (and maybe control) due to strong local opposition to their plan to build 21k houses on our green belt at Crews Hill.

It will be to the Tories though, or maybe Reform, not Green.

I’m in Lambeth and I’ve never been canvassed as heavily as the last two weeks - we’ve had someone at the door pretty much every day for the last couple of weeks -
Labour, Lib Dems and Greens.

I’ve only had Greens so far.

Wonder how Aspire will fare in Tower Hamlets.

placemats · 28/04/2026 15:09

Tower Hamlets is the centre of London. Though there's no elections in the City of London.

Labour are truly finished. Corruption, sleaze. Jobs for the boys. Nepotism. Cronyism. Rank hypocrisy. The paedophile protectors party. So, Reform & Greens will win big in London. And independents on the Gaza ticket.

Riapia · 02/05/2026 03:56

Probably be like the rest of the country, people will scan through the list of candidates and choose the one who seems to be the least worst for them.

I’m in Lambeth too and have only been canvassed by an independent candidate. I’ll be voting for them.

The more Lib Dem’s, Labour, Greens pamplet me, the more entrenched I get for voting Reform.

ProudAmberTurtle · 06/05/2026 19:13

The polls in London show Labour with about an 8 point lead over the Greens.

Labour's polling has almost halved in the last 2 years but they will still be the biggest party.

The reason why is simple - the average voting age in London is significantly younger than anywhere else (it's where many graduates go to live) and there is a very large number of Muslim voters.

Well the day is finally here thank goodness - let's see how it goes!
