Well, it's a pity you didn't have a better title to your thread. But it seems to me that it's more for the Film forum.
I've very much enjoyed the way it's being slammed in the U.S., and I'm on a forum where people kept adding links to vicious reviews.
Here's what I said:
I saw a bit of "Melania."
I went to the movies, was stuck waiting for a while, saw “Melania” was playing in one of the theaters, and ducked in briefly. It was fairly empty. I'd asked at the box office if it were selling well, and he said, Yes, pretty well. But I asked, out of curiosity, to see the seating chart, and it looked to be about 15% full.
Without the Trump connection, I suspect no one in their right mind would watch it, as it seems objectively boring.
Her voice-over is carefully read, obviously scripted by others, and she’s obviously not comfortable with it. Her conversation with others, which may or may not be scripted, does not show any particular mastery of English, often just with responses like “Good” or “Beautiful.” She makes a point of mentioning her background in architecture as qualifying her to make decisions, without bothering to mention that she dropped out early on. The bit I saw showed no interaction with friends or family (of course, she reportedly has blotted out all of her step-children), so she’s mostly seen with people who are the equivalent of servants. Of course everyone fawns on her, with one praising her for choosing a color (red), and one attributing her supposedly astute taste to her having been a model (which is basically a lie, as models don’t usually have any input).
Her inauguration dress may be the most startling moment, as her butt sticks out incongruously and very unattractively. It makes you wonder about her supposed fashion judgment.
The location may likely be Trump Tower, and certainly, at some point, her “office.” It’s garishly overdone, bringing to my Fran Lebowitz’s comment that Trump is a poor person’s idea of a rich person.
This is, as we might have known, basically just a PR vanity project – so in a way, she was right when she said it’s not really a documentary. It doesn’t look to me as if it’s worth paying admission for. But on the other hand, although I’d be willing to watch it at home for free, I have the feeling I’d fall asleep.
