Restore party launch speech

Having just spent 25 minutes that I won't get back, watching the launch speech before I formed an opinion, and then the thread being removed I was left with some thoughts I wanted to put down somewhere. So here we go.
I think amongst all the waffle and fearmongering of which there was a lot,
There were some quite scary snippets.

Reverse immigration presumably ala some sort of u.k version of ICE. Surely nobody is looking across the pond and thinking that sounds like a fab idea lets give that a go.

He wants to staff the government with people who are heads of their fields but have no prior experience in parliment, which on the face of it sounds ideal but I don't think I would have much confidence in a government that has no idea what its supposed to be doing, as far as I am aware there arent any "So youve been elected now what." style training videos

He stated that he wanted to burn down regulatory framework in businesses, yes everyone hates red tape, but again this smacks of trump and getting rid of Fema etc. Regulations are written usually after its become apparent that they are needed, this along with twice mentioning being risk averse as if it were a bad thing and that employers would no longer be blackmailed by HR screams a large scale scrapping of employee rights.

He stated that he wanted to reindustrialise britain, rely on our own energy this is obviously positive but, when he said it my first thought was oh god they are going to try and bring coal back.

There was an interesting slip almost when talking about families He started with MEN and women like we were tagged on the end and almost forgotten about

Then we had lots about returning to being a christian country baning the burka stopping halal slaughter and getting rid of sharia law, which as far as I know we dont have in this country. Which just felt like throwing an Islamophobic bone to get the racists to focus on that and slip the rest through without notice.

The whole thing felt like a page out of trumps play book along with the idea of returning to a nostalgic time which never actually existed he even said that british people were the best in the world MAGA anyone?

That said I think personally the best thing they can do is continue to exist, split the votes and ensure that none of the right/far right parties get a look in

Sorry its quite garbled I don't really follow politics but i don't feel that we can afford to not pay attention. I would be interested to hear back from people who support this new party particularly in regards to the employment rights.

Decades of underinvestment in public services

Failure to build social housing

Free market capitalism giving us cheap flipflops and coffee tables and shampoo but unaffordable groceries, utilities and housing

The ultra rich and huge corporations avoiding billions in tax sums that wouldn't even have made any difference to them

Businesses paying wages that don't begin to cover the cost of living

Just a few of the real big problems, none of which is immigration - what's caused 'issues' with immigration in the UK is politicians, international political social media meddlers and billionaire press barons who either want to create division to destabilise the country, or don't want you not notice that they are the problem.

The sad thing is most people agree billionaires and big business should pay more taxes, and want more spending on public services. But too many our swept away by distraction tactics pitting us against immigrants, or one another, because the last thing those in power is for people to stop bickering and focus on the real problem - which is them.

We are building an extremely high rate, the fact is to many people are coming into the country. We cant build infrastructure quickly enough.

Your groceries are high in cost because we need to import food because we dont have enough farmland because we build houses on them.

Electricity costs are high because we use more expensive energy sources than other countries. Also the current bidding system doesn't work. This also means we cant manufacture anything because of high energy costs. More people more demand, more expensive when supply is low.

Big buisness being taxed more and more just means they need to increase product cost and let people go because they cant afford all tax rises and red tape. Businesses are repeatedly going to other countries leaving holes in our gdp which then need to be filled by normal rax payers by raising tax. If we made the country a haven for buisness by lowering tax, as more businesses come to the country it will allow taxes on everyone to be reduced because of all the extra cash entering the economy.

We have spent more and more on public services and houses. Nhs budgit has doubled since the later 90s when it worked. Its simply down to the population explosion, meaning infrastructure cant be built fast enough resulting in taxes going up to try and build faster. We have 3 options, bring down imigration, continue to spend meaning taxes go up on working people and businesses ( meaning buisness leaves meaning working people need to foot the bill) or let our infrastructure crumble. Only one option l makes sence.

You have said all the issues but you haven't said why they are there. You blame rich people for not paying tax when they pay more than ever. Yet things get worse and worse. Look around at countries promoting buisness, they are doing very well. Look at all the countries doing badly in Europe, badly increasing populations. Look at Poland, they promote buisnes and are trying to slowly build up a polish population, and its working very well for them.

Whereabouts in Wales are you that "pedophilia" is, and I quote, "the correct spelling"?

sleepwouldbenice · 17/02/2026 00:41

@FinanceGirl spends hours posting page after page from the reform and gbnews handbook and calling anybody left of them a socialist
then says people should read from a wide range of sources and views
deluded beyond belief

Ok - you hate Labour, and all potential leaders - but you do know labour is in until 2029, so why not just accept Starmer is there for now but advocate for future change of party - constant changes to leaders, in any governing party, just destabilise, cost and do no one any good. Pointless to get angry and want Starmer changing when actually you just want the whole government changed.

If you want to see what a bit of Reform council leadership does to counties you should look at Derbyshire (and others) - adult Ed, care homes, SEN provision - gone or going - roads oh dear. Gives me no confidence in even the general management of a country for sure.

Evidence?

Oh just Google it 🤣

By the way, pedophile is the simplified American spelling. Paedophile is the standard UK spelling.

PandoraSocks · 17/02/2026 09:08

Oh, has MN shown financegirl the door? Her last few posts have been deleted.

PandoraSocks · 17/02/2026 09:11

Oh. OK. 😁

Zonder · 17/02/2026 09:11

My goodness. Are you calling me a paedophile? That's something else!

And just because I know how to spell.

Zonder · 17/02/2026 09:12

Says the poster who appears to have just called me a paedophile because I know how to spell!

PandoraSocks · 17/02/2026 09:14

Are you saying all the mods at MNHQ are lefties? That is a big assumption.

Zonder · 17/02/2026 09:21

Not sure what happened there - some pretty strong posts from Give - now gone but not even a deleted notice.

PandoraSocks · 17/02/2026 09:21

Giveafork has been banned, which I assume is why their posts have vanished completely, if anyone is wondering what is going on.

Zonder · 17/02/2026 09:44

Good. I was a little shocked at their posts, and I have come to expect all sorts on MN.

DavefromtheShed · 17/02/2026 11:11

@Zonder For the last 12 years or so Germany and France have not been doing very well either. one example is Swiss Railways were so badly affected by German trains being so unreliable they made the Germans issue new timetables to account for late running. France is borrowing so much more to finance itself. No country has done really well since Global Finance Crisis.
Blaming Brexit for our problems is just plain wrong.

It’s been a contributory factor. Economists are pretty unanimous that it’s cost 4% of our economy.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 17/02/2026 11:45

I think it’s great, it’ll split the reform vote

Zonder · 17/02/2026 13:02

@DavefromtheShed I see @BIossomtoes has responded - I was about to say similar.

Pretty much any reliable economists agree that Brexit has made things worse.
