Where are the Lib Dems??

I may be being a bit of a fraud posting in Politics as I only dip in and out, but as someone vaguely aware of everything currently going on with Labour (oops!!) the prominence of Reform, plus Zac Polanski mouthing off everywhere, you’d think the Lib Dems would be making hay while the sun shines?
Are they, and I have missed it, or are they just very quiet?
I’m not even 100% who their leader is now, let alone their policies.

I saw a brief vox pop type interview with Ed Davey (their leader) in the HoC yesterday. As part of the whatever o'clock news.

Nobody really cares about the Lib Dems. So they don't get coverage.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 06/02/2026 17:17

Ed Davie is the most critical of Trump of all the party leaders. You don't hear much about him as the media is either biased to Tories/Reform or to a lesser degree Labour.

parietal · 06/02/2026 17:20

try as they might, the media don't cover Lib Dem policies. that is probably because they are sensible and dull and grown-up, rather than being extremist or stupid.

HeddaGarbled · 06/02/2026 17:21

I expect they’re trying to get some attention but it’s been a bit wild lately and they’ve not done anything exciting enough to compete. Sort of maturity and decency you might want to support, maybe?

Yes their leader's general election was so very grown up. 🥴

Lib Dems have always been the party of "We're not the Tories or Labour". Except for that time when they kind of were Tories.

But now there are Reform and the Greens...

What are those policies? Except for men being women, of course.

TammyOne · 06/02/2026 17:37

Ah Ed Davey, that’s the one! Yeah. I guess if you’re a bit boring and theres no scandal maybe they don’t get coverage?
I must say I have, in the past, discounted them as they had put out some quite anti single sex spaces messages, but not sure of their position now.

I think this is it. My mum always went Lib Dems in the locals, cos she said they were better locally, and I have to say I don’t particularly see them as having a cohesive national message.
I also think the Greens have taken over their turf.

I wish the Lib Dems could get their voices out and gain visibility. They could be the answer - in the middle of the incompetent lab and con and well away from the extremism of reform and green.

Lib Dems have always had a good local game.

What differentiates the Lib Dems from Starmer's Labour? Which is fairly centrist.

Good question. I’m probably quite centre these days but Labour have let me down. I’d vote for anyone who

  1. Prioritised the young, the working class and uk enterprise
  2. Stayed away from identity politics
3. Wanted to genuinely do something real about public transport and infrastructure and
  1. Weren’t a lying bunch of shitbags.

It doesn’t seem like such a tall order but apparently so!

Yes, well, that won't be the Lib Dems. They think that a man can be/come a woman.

Yeah I wondered about that because I remembered some comments on here about it. It’s a shame if that’s their official line, because I have no party I could really vote for now I don’t think .

Still, you’d think they’d be all over this mess, grabbing an opportunity.
Which makes me conclude their political instincts are even worse than Labours!
