STARMER’S DEPICTION OF WEALTH

I think the Muppet has declared that someone is working class/wealthy if they can afford to get their boiler replaced without getting a Loan…he must be the only person in the world who believes this! It is certainly not my depiction of a working class person, more about someone who has worked hard and managed to create some savings.

I’m not sure I understand your description of what he said. What do you mean, “someone is working class/wealthy”?
Do you have a link to his statement/speech/interview/wherever he said this?

MumChp · 20/10/2025 10:39

?
Link?

AzurePanda · 20/10/2025 10:39

Well as the whole Labour policy seems to be to encourage people to not save and prepare for their and their children’s futures, it wouldn’t surprise me.

BadgernTheGarden · 20/10/2025 10:40

Is he saying they are working class and wealthy? Makes little sense agree with above is there a link.

SkipAd · 20/10/2025 10:40

Would also like a link please, confused.

What did he say where? Link please.

Trying to find the link..think it was part of a recent debate in Parliament, caught it on You Tube, but can’t find it now!!

Could you at least clarify what you think he said then. I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.

LavenderBlue19 · 20/10/2025 10:45

I've had a quick google and I can't find any mention of this.

However, he would have a point - there are so many people in this country with no savings at all, living one month to the next. You see it on here all the time.

ContraryCurrentBun · 20/10/2025 10:47

Look at your recent history and you should be able to find it easily unless you have your settings to clear history.

CurlewKate · 20/10/2025 18:18

Well @Aweekoffwork? Gone a bit quiet now, haven’t you….

Ohtodostarjumps · 20/10/2025 18:24

If this is true it wouldn’t surprise me.

I don’t know whether it would surprise me or not because I don’t understand it!

BurntBroccoli · 20/10/2025 18:54

Are you a Reform bot?

Zonder · 20/10/2025 20:30

Well that was worth starting a thread over!

I can see this as one, out of many, measures. My mum has just had to replace her boiler. She has a miniscule savings, but was able to pay for it out of her savings. Had she had to take a loan, then this would have incurred interest, and she doesn't earn enough to avoid that becoming a financial trap. So she's on the brink, but just above it, because she had that savings.
