I'm wondering where Corbyn's new party will stand on immigration and refuges, as well as women's rights.

Anyone else?

The new party gives me hope of a socialist party people that can feel confident won't flip flop about, but I think unless they take a strong stance on "the boats" (awful phrase I know) they won't gain many of the voters who have walked away from Kier's Labour and moved to Reform.

Equally women who feel strongly about women's rights being protected will vote for parties they feel will stand firm on the matter.

I worry it won't be enough tbh. It feels like there is a lot of shifting sands, unrest and change afoot and I'm not sure what I think about it all, other than uneasy!

He’s hard left. They will not have a strong stance on immigration and under him Labour actively despised women and worked against their rights. It’s not a mystery

Under him they were also found to be institutionally racist. Oh, and he’s called Hamas, “friends”.

I am baffled at the appeal of the man,

He was previously TWAW and a big fan of Lily Madigan (who apparently disappeared after some allegations of sexual misconduct or something), so I’m not holding my breath that he’ll be great for women’s rights.

The Corbyn / Sultana hard left party will be strongly pro immigration, particularly when it’s from Muslim countries as that will be a key voter demographic for them. The higher the Muslim population of the U.K., the higher their vote share would be. Expect commitments to abolish voter ID in order to allow more of the corruption & voter fraud which has occurred in places such as Tower Hamlets : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-32428648

As for women’s rights, forget it. Because that would offend the same patriarchal misogynistic communities which are their target voter base.

I don't think they will be chasing the right wing voters. They have plenty of party options. Labour are doing that and it isn't getting them anywhere. They are a left wing party alternative. If people want to vote for anti immigration policies above all else there are plenty out there. No party is going to give you everything you want. You have to go with the best compromise for you.
Which party policies are pro women for you at the moment? My (Conservative) mp is up on sexual assault charges which I find incredibly difficult to stomach.
Edit as I didn't think he had been suspended but he has, apologies for any confusion.

I don't think ANY of the current parties are pro womens rights in a big way.

The far right may be anti-trans but that doesn't also stop them being misogynistic. 🤷 I couldn't ever vote Farage for example.

I don't think there is a party I can 100% get behind at the moment really. Or even 60%. I feel they're all rather lacking.

I did used to be very socialist. But now i think my views are more centric and as I get older I have a wider scope of concerns maybe.

I don't want immigration to continue as is. Right now it's just an out of control free for all.

I don't want womens rights eroded further and further.

I want affordable homes.
Protection for our most vulnerable citizens.
NHS reviewed and repaired.

I've just noticed the autocorrect in my title. I meant refugees, not refuges. 🤦

I think you have to decide which of these things are most important to you and how you want to see them resolved, and then go with whichever party you think best represents those views.
Womens rights haven't been addressed by the new party as far as I know. No one else is doing anything proactive and positive for them either. It's not great, but probably, due to lack of differential, not really something you can base a vote on.
Immigration is a big issue for labour, tories and reform, with similar views on how to fix it.
Affordable homes, protection for the vulnerable and not privatising the NHS are all things the new party are prioritising, but whether they are in a way that you think is compatible with your views is up to you.
The new party has a lot of interest and potential, but ultimately how successful they are will depend on what people want to prioritise. I don't think the fear-mongering/slating of the party leaders by the right-wing press will hold much sway this time though, people see through it now, and are angry and disappointed with the labour party they voted for in hope doing all the same things they were trying to get away from.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 25/07/2025 21:26

No idea. I was very enthusiastic about Labour's promise to cut VAWAG, at last it was being addressed. It's early days but I'm still holding out hope. I can't remember Corbyn taking a stance on women's rights.

As for asylum seekers, he'll move away from the current dehumanising rhetoric. Many on the left are against importing cheap labour and suppressing wages, so I imagine he will take a stance on immigration.

He'll focus on social care, the NHS, wealth distribution, education and alleviating poverty. I don't know much about Sultana but she wants the two child cap lifted so I imagine she'll be thinking along similar lines.

There's also talk of the Green Party joining them. At the moment it's still talk but it's an interesting idea.

EasternStandard · 25/07/2025 21:36

I don’t think they’ll want to chase Reform voters, Labour are more concerned about doing that.

Corbyn’s party could take Labour voters however.

It's important to note that they're making a big noise about this party being "member-led" (hence the temporary working title). So answers to questions like these are going to depend upon a consensus arising from the hundreds of thousands of people signing up to it.

On immigration: I would guess it's going to be dominated by those who (like me) just don't think it's the problem it's being made out to be. If you don't like that, you don't have to vote for them. You've already got Labour, the Tories and Reform working their arses off to appear more anti-immigration than each other, so it's not like you're spoilt for choice.

It's important to note though, that refusing to play the anti-immigration game doesn't simply mean ignoring the concerns that have led to it. When presented with the question of whether immigration is a problem, JC doesn't just say "no, fuck off". He says which aspects of government policy (weakening of union power, deregulation of large corporations etc.) he believes are actually responsible for stagnating wages and falling living standards, and what he would do about them. It's not going to be easy to get that across in our soundbite culture where most of the media are already bought into "BROWN PEOPLE ON BOATS = BAAAAD!!!", but the arguments will be there for anyone willing to listen.
