Finally Tulip Siddiq resigns. The minister with responsibility for anti-corruption realises that two investigations for corruption by an overseas government makes her position untenable. One was okay of course…!

Apparently she didn’t remember/know how she acquired the flat . 🙄

OpheliaWasntMad · 14/01/2025 19:29

The lack of political integrity from both main parties is horrifying

Tryingtokeepgoing · 14/01/2025 19:30

It’s so difficult when one gets so many free things to remember what came from whom and when 🤣🤣

I don't know how anyone can look at this and not question Starmer's judgement.
TS should never have been given that position in the first place.

Exactly. This isn't a new issue, it's been rumbling on for years, starmer knew and still gave her the job.

Exceptionally poor judgement and it starting to feel as though he personally is way out of his depth.

I don’t understand how both main parties consist of people involved in murky and weird stuff. I bet most people on this thread are just like me: they bought their house using a mortgage. No mystery, no murkiness - you get a mortgage based on the salary you have. You pay the mortgage every month until it’s finished. And you have no doubt whose fucking names are on the deeds!

Politics is a despicable business. Full of hypocrites and liars. They are all at it. Doesn’t matter what party, they are a bunch of cunts. Often, I don’t vote. Because I think all the options consist of dishonest hypocritical swindlers.

Why can’t we have anyone decent in power?

Power corrupts. It will always be that way.

Kennith Clark made an interesting speech

MikeRafone · 14/01/2025 20:19

Sorry not speech

@22nws

"Why can’t we have anyone decent in power?"

Well for a start if a political candidate ever told the truth (eg you want more spent on the NHS well it's going to cost you more in taxes) then they would never get elected to become a politician.

Politicians lie because voters want to hear they can have more spent on services without it costing them anything.

logicisall · 14/01/2025 21:56

My mantra too. Unfortunately politicians today seem to be in it for themselves and not to help the country. They all seem to have had an integrity bypass and are shockingly lacking in leadership ability. We need more capable people in politics, so it's no wonder many didn't bother to vote given the poor field to chose from.

OneAmberFinch · 15/01/2025 13:07

Sorry but how did she become an MP let alone a minister in the first place.

Close family ties to a foreign dictatorship should be an instant deal breaker.

Why is the UK so soft on this? "Oh, she should be judged on her own merits, not on her family ties" - when everyone in the rest of the world can clearly tell that someone in her position is obviously going to have dual loyalties at best.

I can't believe Starmer said the door is still open for her. Treasonous.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 08/02/2025 21:43

And another… we’re only 7 months iin. That makes it four doesn’t it? Tulip Siddiq as Treasury minister in January, Louise Haigh as transport secretary in November and Sue Gray as Downing Street chief of staff in October making up the other three

Still, it’s okay. Starmer is apparently offsite with his team working on yet another re-set. I just can’t understand why they didn’t have a plan for what they’d do on winning. They’ve got a huge majority and could push through some really powerful reforms of the tax system, the NHS and social care and make a proper, long term difference de to the country. Instead they’re focussing on kicking off reviews, dumping the Chagos islands, meetings about reparations for slavery and the right to access all the encrypted data held by Apple on our behalf.
