Could you explain the hypocrisy? As far as I know, the Guardian is a respectable, reliable news source - and Twitter isn't, especially now that it's opened itself to the most blatant lies and disinformation.

tobee · 15/11/2024 01:41

That's a pretty stupid article

username358 · 15/11/2024 03:28

The article and the comments are a load of sneery people talking about how sneery the Guardian is.

Twitter seems to be have been taken over by lunatics. I can't seem to find anything moderate or sane. Wasn't a lot of the far right content regarding the riots on Twitter?

I imagine they're sick off the bottom feeders like we all are.

DesertGecko · 15/11/2024 03:34

X is full of ‘it’s the only place left with free speech’ types on it. I almost called it Twitter but Twitter is long gone…it is definitely X now.

Latenightreader · 15/11/2024 04:00

So many organisations are leaving it - my workplace has, our library service has, lots of museums and galleries are walking away. It has been really noticeable that even innocuous posts received nasty comments on X and we didn’t want to be associated with it anymore.

crockofshite · 15/11/2024 04:12

Bluesky is an alternative to twitter

LauderSyme · 15/11/2024 04:32

That UnHerd article is blatantly biased and not very intelligent. It's analysis would have been far more interesting were it not so simplistic and the writer not so determined to wrap himself in his own personal political flag.

Considering the degenerate depths of corruption to which Trump and Musk look likely to sink, I think the Guardian is wise to extricate itself from their most notorious mouthpiece before it can be accused of complicity.

The Guardian is very left wing. Twitter was aligned with their views and cancel culture. Now with X it is not longer the case. They can go and find a nice place for their views which for many are not respectable as you put it. I personally had a bad experience with Twitter and never joined back while it was under the previous CEO.

Oblomov24 · 15/11/2024 05:29

Most of the idiots on Twitter (X) won't even care or notice that the guardian has left, will they? I went onto my account now just to check, nothings changed.

Bigredcombine · 15/11/2024 07:48

X is just awful. The only people who are on it are bots, free speech nutters shouting into the void, trans activists and GC people shouting at each other (btw I describe myself as GC but hate twitter). Miserable place. I genuinely think my MH is better not having twitter (or Facebook, or insta).

The Guardian is driven by its own agendas as much as any other British news outlet and like other newspapers it has pockets of truth and reliability but not across the board. It's also widely ridiculed for some of the navel gazing drivel it pumps out as opinion pieces - again not always, but often.

The Guardian has a left bias. It's really not "very left wing".

X is a trough of reprobates. Odd anyone sensible bothers with it anymore.

I went off the Guardian when someone on here said that the Gates Foundation had put millions into the paper.

So…you make decisions guided by unverified posts on Mumsnet?

The Guardian might seem “very” left wing now because the political spectrum in most first world economies has lurched to the right in the last two decades or so.

username358 · 15/11/2024 20:54

I don't think people know what far right and far left mean if they're calling the Guardian far left or very left wing. They're hardly calling for mass state controlled property and reeducation camps.

ReignOfError · 15/11/2024 20:59

The Guardian is centre-left at most. The Gates Foundation, in line with its mission, support the Guardian to report on global health, but have no influence elsewhere, nor any editorial control.

X is a bloody cesspit, and the Guardian is a business. If much of its target market isn’t there, and the algorithms are limiting its engagement with that much smaller market, why would it stay?

Unless you're Kath Viner or Bill/Melissa Gates I don't see how you can confidently say that. They may or may not have influence but none of us actually know. Musk is very upfront with much of his meddling but that doesn't mean other billionaires are minding their own.

Okay, @dottiehens, although I'm guessing that the main reason people generally are leaving Twitter is because it's become disreputable - dumping their fact-checkers, for instance.
