I was enjoying reading the thread about KB but it filled up. Quite a few calling her vile and her views abhorrent, but without much further explanation. For example, I’ve heard about her autism views however one poster said they were misrepresented. In what way? For those more politically tuned-in than me, what specifically do you like or dislike about her?

She’s a political lightweight and will quickly be shown up as not particularly intelligent. She’ll trip herself up within a year or so, the signs are already there.

Shes essentially another populist as the first pp said; you’d have thought that the TP would have realised that the key to elections lies in the centre ground, but hey ho, it’ll be interesting to watch her grapple with the reality of where her electorate actually lies.

TBF to the party, Badenoch and Jenrick ended up in the final 2 by accident.🙈

I agree that she's a bit of an intellectual lightweight. Her comment today that Partygate was overblown demonstrates this. It also shows that she has learnt nothing from their monumental defeat in the GE.

She has an engineering degree and Masters plus a law degree. Why would she not be intelligent? Is that comment from a position of completing more than that?

Harvestfestivalknickers · 03/11/2024 20:57

I for one am looking forward to PMQs! I think it will be really interesting.
I also think she has plenty of time to develop as leader, Labour are not having an easy ride after the election. They've got to get their communications better, hopefully this will improve in time. I also wonder how long it'll be until there is a cabinet reshuffle. While Labour are still finding their feet the spotlight is off the Tories.

Queensguide · 03/11/2024 21:12

Her qualifications are no measure of her emotional intelligence.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/11/2024 21:13

Or her political acumen.

Lonelycrab · 03/11/2024 21:15

Or her ability to lead a country

Or even unite her party. Spoiler alert- she won’t.

She’s fantastic!

derxa · 03/11/2024 21:22

I think she’s bloody fantastic.

EasternStandard · 03/11/2024 21:44

We'll see how she does with the politics but these aren't true

she's a bit of an intellectual lightweight

and will quickly be shown up as not particularly intelligent

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/11/2024 22:10

You think resurrecting Partygate is intelligent? Because it really isn't.

pearldiamond · 04/11/2024 10:00

I have to say (not being that interested in the campaign she's just done) every time I hear what she has to say, I find myself nodding along.

I think she's great!

What do you agree with?

Is

ExtraOnions · 04/11/2024 10:10

How many of us have worked with people with great degrees, but seemingly zero common sense… she falls into this bucket for me.

The Tories lost the election as they lost thier core moderate voters to the Lib Dem’s, and there overt right wing to Reform. I have no idea how they are supposed to reclaim their traditional voters.. but spouting a load of populist stuff won’t do it.

fussychica · 04/11/2024 16:58

She's just named bloody Pritti Patel as Shadow Foreign Secretary, that tells me all I need to know!

I don't know why I'm so surprised at that.

BIossomtoes · 04/11/2024 17:16

I’m not remotely surprised. I’m waiting with bated breath to see what job Braverman’s been given.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 04/11/2024 17:17

Laura Trott as Shadow Education Secretary has to be a troll. Trott has repeatedly demonstrated there is absolutely nothing going on between her ears.

oatleytap · 04/11/2024 17:31

“So will say anything that resonate with the Daily Mail,or GB news”

The depressing reality of politics in this country is there’s zero hope of getting the Conservative membership to vote for you unless you do that.

But to actually win an election in this country, you’ve got to make a swerve back to the centre right.

Which is what Starmer has just had to do in the opposite direction in order to become PM.

So there’s a chance that she’ll gradually moderate herself in that direction.

Works the same way on the Labour side.

It’s bloody bonkers, of course, but there we are…

twistyizzy · 04/11/2024 17:31

She hasn't got enough MPs to fill all the shadow cabinet positions. So she has to appoint each and every one who will accept, even if she doesn't want to.

Can’t she get Gullis as her secretary of culture? Maybe that’ll help her out…

Oh no she can’t; he lost his seat.

Queensguide · 03/11/2024 21:12

Her qualifications are no measure of her emotional intelligence.

Certainly not. She is a woman who expects much hard work but is perhaps ill acquainted with it herself.

Lack of moderation will be her problem, along with a cabinet of little talent.

lljkk · 04/11/2024 21:27

KB will make politics interesting.

I probably don't agree with any of her policies but I look forward to seeing how she gets on.

user1471453601 · 04/11/2024 21:38

Where to start with Badenoch.

Well, she said maternity pay was too much, then said she didn't say that, at all. Spoiler, she did.

She wrote a forward to a pamphlet that said that getting a diagnosis of autism was a golden ticket to benefits.

She also said 5/10% of civil servants are so bad they should be in jail. She said it was a joke. Hmm.

Some says she can start an argument in an empty room. Some may think that's a positive. I'd say what we need right now is more cohesion not less.

As ever, you make your choice, but you also pay the price.
