Bromley Labour candidate works for slum landlord

I don't know who to vote for in my area. The Tories deserve a kicking, but the more I hear about Labour, the less I like them. They seem happy to throw women under the bus, and now I hear that our local Labour candidate works for a slum landlord. And Farage's comments about Ukraine and Andrew Tate completely rule him out. If there was time left, I'd stand myself.

Second Labour Candidate Revealed to Work For 'Slum' Housing Group

Guido pointed out this week that among Keir Starmer’s crop of hand-picked candidates is Andrew Lewin, who works as chief spin doctor for the Clarion

You know that link is Guido Fawkes right? Notoriously right wing?
Could you not find a source that's a bit less biased?

Clarion vans are everywhere in the Bromley borough. They’re always maintaining the council houses. I don’t get this article at all. It doesn’t look very well researched

Boomboomboomboom · 27/06/2024 15:24

Clarion is not a 'slum' landlord.
They are regulated by the social housing regulator and have a huge volume of stock so it isn't surprising sometimes they get it wrong and have negative ombudsman decisions and court orders.

Definitely not slum. Bromley is a lovely borough with good housing. Anyone would be grateful to live there when you compare to other parts of London

Chersfrozenface · 27/06/2024 15:31

This is a quote from the Housing Ombudsman, Richard Blakeway, about the 4 findings of severe maladministration across 3 cases against Clarion.

“In these cases, residents had to go to extraordinary lengths for the landlord to take action, which should not have been necessary.

"There is also evidence of the landlord failing to join the dots or having similar points of failure, especially in the cases where there were multiple related complaints from the same block.

“Running throughout these cases is evidence of delay, poor communication and ineffective action. There were multiple instances in these cases where it would not have been too late to rectify the situation for the resident and repair the relationship between them and the landlord. However, these opportunities were also missed."

So it looks like more than a few cock-ups.

The conservatives might claim to protect women's rights but their actions tell otherwise. Women have been disproportionately badly affected by 14 years of austerity. The GR act has exceptions to protect women from predatory trans women.

I had the misfortune of owning an ex housing association flat managed by clarion

Slum landlords is EXACTLY what they are.
There is nothing ethical about them.

the standard of work is like nothing i have ever seen. Truly shocking... I'd be embarassed/ virtually unable to do work to as low a standard.
We were charged 4k to redecorate a hall.

you couldnt tell it had been decorated. Genuinely.

the disinterest when i complained about the poor "workmanship" was shocking.

They also lock into long term contracts. Mowing our lawn and triming a few trees went from £200 pa to over 1k per flat in 5 years.
