Is the western world swinging rightwards?

Many of the democracies in the west seem to be swinging to the right... France, Germany, the US. Even Canada may be getting tired of the ultra-left Liberal party who have been mis-ruling for years.

In the UK, I have the impression people are tired of the Tories, but who is to replace them? Will the UK be out-of-step with the swing to the right, or will the Tories manage to cling to power?

In the UK, I don't think many people would describe Keir Starmer as left-wing so the UK isn't really out of step.

The world has been moving right since 2016 (Trump et al ), I'm hoping it's almost reached its limit and will swing back. Perhaps the UK is at the front edge of that movement.

And no, I don't think the Tories will cling to power.

Of course he’s left wing leaning and no, the Uk isn’t on the front edge. In fact it’s going against the tide in Europe and Starmer will feel very cold and isolated. The elephant in the room is uncontrolled migration and he has no answer for that making the UK a magnet for it which Le Pen will be only too happy to facilitate. I’m afraid things will start to get nasty.

Compared to what America call left Starmer is a raving commie!

Not all European countries are moving right. Look at the northern ones.

I believe that most people are centrists and a little bit left or right leaning. However, some harder left policies such as open boarders, identity politics etc which aren’t universally supported are creating a gap which is being filled by the right.

Reform UK dropped in the polls here according to today's Financial Times.

I expect it's after Nigel Farages (supportive) comments about Putin.

I agree. It's a worrisome trend. Much seems to have been triggered by the waves of refugees and migrants - and that wave has largely been triggered by right-wing policies.

i can't wait for JT to no longer be the canadian pm and sincerely hope to never hear KF speak to me like a stupid child again. the environment fellow is a train wreck reminds me of donald trump. at this point anything the lib party announces is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
