What's your predictions for the White House in November 2024.

I don't think anyone has said Biden is perfect, but Trump is evil.

How anyone can think he is the solution is beyond me. Why people can be so blind to his clear stupidity, illegal activity and scare mongering is beyond me.

The saddest thing is that these are the two candidates that the country has ended up with.

Trump makes G Bush Jr look a genius.

I was listening to the BBC's Americast podcast at the weekend and Justin Webb was saying that the situation for Democrats with Biden as their candidate is really desperate and I agree after that report last week (highly partisan though it was), saying his memory is too bad to get him in court to answer questions about missing govt documents that were in his garage. That plus several public gaffes in quick succession - confusing Merkel and Kohl, Macron and Mitterand. The great irony, of course, is that US economy is doing great and 'It's the economy, stupid!', except this time no one seems to be focused on that at all. They're too distracted by Biden's cognitive decline and the disaster at the southern border.

DH and I think that a Whitmer/Newsom ticket could win it for the Democrats, but Jill Biden really needs to have a word with her husband. I don't think he'd take the advice from anyone else. Right now, I'm really worried that, of the two Trump looks the stronger. But he's a deranged, dangerous narcissist who almost stole the 2020 election and who encouraged his supporters to storm the Capitol, plus he's also clearly suffering from cognitive decline. He stumbles over words, rambles, repeats himself, talks nonsense - if he was standing against someone young, eloquent and dynamic it would really stand out how incoherent he is. But so far his opponent is going to be Biden, who's even worse 😩

Biden is senile and appears to have walked out of a care home wondering where and who he is! He honestly is embarssing and yet his wife seems to wallow in being the First Lady. She apparently blames all the people around him for putting him in certain positions but FGS he is the President of the United States.

This situation surely cannot continue. He honestly gets worse and worse and still no one steps in. I suspect he thinks he is doing a jolly good job despite the way he appears and what he says. He is that far gone...

Trump will win. The Democrats have just left it too late to do very much about it. This is on them. Shame on them.

@dubsie
Biden is too old and what America really needs is another Obama.... purely because of the intelligence he brought to the Whitehouse....for me he was by far my favourite president.

Biden has been FAR more effective than Obama ever was. Obama's main accomplishment was healthcare reform and he made the strategic decision to go for it, but the person who actually got it done was Pelosi. Obama himself was a pretty face and a great speaker, but notoriously disengaged with Congress. I doubt he'd do any better in average today - probably somewhat better at mobilizing the youth vote, but OTOH the mere fact of his racial background sadly helped mobilize the right wing Christo-nationalist vote as well and thus assisted the rise of He Who Shall Not be Named.

OP - just too close to call at this stage.

I am amazed that more isn't being made of the good Biden has done. It is fascinating isn't it?

I think it will be Trump but then change my mind

Not sure

NoCloudsAllowed · 19/02/2024 17:12

I don't think Biden is senile, but he should let someone else stand. Most people would crumble under the pressure of being president, I don't think you have to be senile to be not quite up to it and get wrong footed a bit.

Trump is an abomination who threatens global stability, so I'd still prefer Biden.

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/02/2024 17:21

Jill Biden really needs to have a word with her husband

while I agree, surely its highly likely she already has? It’s quite clear to anyone that he’s no longer up to the job, I assume he is so stubborn he is just refusing to be persuaded not to run.

on a more positive note an American (democrat) voter was on telly earlier and said his view was yes, he’s clearly past it, but it’s the people that the president surrounds himself with that matters more, not the actual president. True to a large extent.

Lizzieregina · 19/02/2024 17:23

@LipstickLil I don’t disagree that a Whitmer/Newsom ticket would be excellent, but I have serious doubts that Newsom would be happy if he wasn’t the headliner. Personally, I wouldn’t be happy if he was foisted on me, but could live with Whitmer.

Also, the primaries have begun and none of these people are currently on the ticket and it’s too late for them to get on now. In order to change the nominee, the DNC would have to engage in all kinds of shenanigans at the convention, and I’m not sure how well that would go.

And to quote @NoCloudsAllowed , Trump is indeed an abomination.
