Who should govern?

I'm coming round to the idea that the government of the country is too an important a job to trust to the Government. Ministers that get shuffled from pillar to post every whip stitch, no apparent understanding of basic economics (HS2 a case in point) A load of self absorbed chinless wonders who all attended the same raft of education establishments. How will they be remembered?

I don’t necessarily think their educational institution is the issue: the bigger issue is politics being placed above good governance and integrity. Most of the Cabinet are not good enough. A government is around 100 people so more difficult to judge as most of us don’t know them or how effective they are. I rather think Labour will have the same issue in the long run. Exceptional MPs are thin on the ground. Many are ok in the constituencies but are not good enough to come up with policies for improving the country and being able to carry them out. They can do the easy stuff and make speeches but it’s not the same as actually taking the action that’s needed. Starmer will find it very hard.

So what do you want instead of an elected government?

So, are you suggesting an absolute monarchy?

Or anarchy?

Or people with firm chins?

I'm not sure where you're going with this.

Democracy is the only option. But you can strengthen the system by having tough anti-corruption and anti-lying rules, a strong civil service and robust election rules.

@MidnightOnceMore The Johnson snd Truss government sacked top civil servants for political ends. They didn’t like the advice. So a strong civil service is more difficult to sustain with rogue PMs. This wasn’t a course of action taken by previous administrations. There are rules about lying in the House. What is more difficult are election “promises “ to get your vote but then disappear without trace or simply are too expensive. All governments have done this. All.

How exactly would anti-lying rules work? Who draws the line, considering there are many kids of "acceptable" lies, such as:
We're considering all options.
We have no evidence as yet.
Everyone will be able to get their needed health care.
The police have the situation under control.
Of course I fully support His Majesty.
I'm certain my son is innocent.
