Up-and-coming American Democrats

Since some of you are paying close attention to American politics, I thought this might be of interest..

There was a big piece in the New York Times about younger faces, now that some of the Dem gerontocracy is bowing out. Normally, I like to include links without paywalls, but unfortunately, so far I can only see the original NYT version. But I'll at least copy the basic categories, although the article has much more information.

Biden Is No Sure Thing for 2024. What About Buttigieg? Harris? Even Whitmer?
By Frank Bruni

The midterms were very good to President Biden. His party avoided the shellacking that it suffered halfway through President Barack Obama’s first term and the drubbing that Republicans experienced after two years of President Donald Trump. After two years of Biden, voters gave Democrats a gentle slap on the wrist. That makes him look like a miracle worker and may well muffle chatter about whether he should run for a second term.
But the noise won’t go away entirely.

Pay the closest attention to …
Kamala Harris
Pete Buttigieg
Gretchen Whitmer

Keep an eye on …
Amy Klobuchar
Elizabeth Warren
Roy Cooper
Sherrod Brown
J.B. Pritzker
Ro Khanna

I’m just not feeling it …
Bernie Sanders
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Gavin Newson
Mitch Landrieu
Michelle Obama

I’m intrigued …
Mark Kelly
Raphael Warnock
Jared Polis
Jon Tester
Andy Besmear

I love Pete Buttigieg. I donated to his campaign for the democratic nomination and would have voted for him in the primaries had he not dropped out by the time my state voted.

But now I'm grateful we have someone with more experience than anyone in Washington at the helm. I think Buttigieg is a genius and will go far, but he needs more experience.

That's quite a list but I doubt there's a vacancy.

How nice to see my thread revived!

I agree, @AgingDisgracefullyHere, that regardless of whether I liked Pete personally or not, the lack of experience disqualified him - as it should have disqualified Trump, as well. But I'm sure he'll be around. I thought that with his mind-boggling facility for languages, he should have been in the State Department, or something like that. Roving-Ambassador-In-Chief.

JB Pritzker made a big move today by setting up an organization to get the word out in the swing states. He has money and he can raise money.

He’s getting ready for a run, but won’t go against Biden. If Biden withdraws, I’d say he’d be in like Flynn!

Harris? Really? Well I suppose Biden and Harris would give us another 4 years of entertaining gaffes and utter incompetence.

Very true - although many wish for other options.

That looks like a really interesting article. I did think the original idea was for Biden to do one term then Harris go for it but she doesn't seem to have had such a big role. I think Biden has been great actually but his age is definitely a factor.
