Johnson changing the Ministerial Code.

So when the rules are broken Johnson just changes the rules. How expected is that? What does it mean for our democratic Parliament? ITV news mentioned the deletion of words like truth and integrity. So it won’t be possible to sack anyone for lying to Parliament so long as they apologise and maybe have some cut in salary. What I can’t understand and want to ask is this change possible without the consent of a Parliamentary vote? Can’t help remembering that Putin changed the rules to enable him to stay in power! What is happening to this country while we discuss Ukraine and the cost of living crisis?

It is extremely concerning that this is happening, and what is even more concerning is that there isn't a huge outcry about it. Why isn't there more outrage about this?

Because he's such a lovable fool and doesn't comb his hair and Got Brexit Done!

These are the British electorate's priorities.

Oh, and because he "knows what a woman is". Remember that's far more important than having any concept of honesty or accountability.

Oh yes. That of course renders rewriting the ministerial code for his own benefit unimportant. He can deliver a soundbite about a woman and all else is swept aside.

This is utterly blatant trashing of constitutional norms. Ministers
lying to Parliament without consequences undermines our entire system of government. I don’t think it can be taken too seriously.

Agreed. It's totally without any precedent. No previous prime minister would even have considered doing this. I'm utterly appalled at the fact that this can happen.

I'm watching Elizabeth - The Unseen Queen on BBC1 -honestly say what you like about the Royal Family but the Queen's total devotion to Service & Public duty is shining through!

It's making me so angry that she is having to deal with this moral vacuum for what may be her last Prime Minister! 😡

I'm going to write to my MP again!

You are so fortunate that you have an MP who answers you. I have written three times and no answer is the firm reply. He sits in his safe seat and does very little. On the other side of our area we have a hardworking excellent MP who has recently sent in a letter of no confidence. He is also hardworking and a man of integrity. If only we lived a few miles away.and had such an MP.

Oh mine is in a safe seat too - god knows why - the area is becoming more & more run down! he replied when I wrote to him about Hancock but I guess he had resigned by then, he didn't reply to my initial partygate letter but I'll still send him another one!

Even if it's just the inconvenience of having to try & justify Johnson's atrocious behaviour for the umpteenth time then I'll keep writing!

When I wrote my Matt Hancock letter I even told him I didn't want a reply because I didn't want him to even try & justify it - but still he did! 🙄
