Mumsnet political party

I've had a crazy year so far. Some lowlights, dmil passing away in February, her funeral last month and yesterday our cat was killed by a driver who failed to stop.
During this time we have had partygate, Oligarchs funding conservatives, Sunak. There is the Labour stance on the transgender issue.

Anyway, as a result of how my cat died as well as others recently, I'm going to organise some events to bring like minded individuals in my area together to try to have changes made. Something on a small scale to try to make a difference.

This got me thinking to how I could go about try to make changes on a larger scale.
If I was to stand in the next election maybe I could be a middle ground for the politically homeless. I would have to think about where I stood on different issues and make my views open and clear so that people would know what I stood for.
Realistically though, as an individual I don't know what that would achieve.

Last night (middle of the night when you can't sleep and crazy ideas come), I thought what would happen if other people around the country feel like me. Politically homeless, no training in politics but a genuine desire to do what's right? What would happen if we stood together and said enough?
Could it send a message to the political elite that things need to change?

Anyway, I thought why not ask? The worst that could happen is that I'm told its a stupid idea and I'm being ridiculous. I won't know if I don't ask.

So if anyone there has ideas or would like to know if this could work please post on this thread.
If we have enough mumsnetters around the country(we only need 1 in each constituency) maybe we would have something.

I'm happy to be told I'm mad, but I'm sick of talking and not doing and I figured that we gave a couple of years to be organised.

What do you think?

Don't wait to be told OP, you'll never get anywhere waiting for permission. If you want to do this, do it, and to hell with what anyone else thinks. Politics requires the skin of a rhino, so make sure you're ready to develop that.

Stand to be a parish or independent councillor!

Good for you for wanting to do something about it all.

Antarcticant · 07/05/2022 10:01

You need a clear manifesto.

I very much doubt you would get all Mumsnetters to agree on the same one Grin

There was a thread a while ago (sponsored thread) by Jackie Weaver about women going into politics, I will see if I can find it.

But what are the changes you want? You need to have an agreed platform / manifesto & then a very good machine to publicise & generate awareness & votes.

There's a lot to this.

Thank you for your responses.
I was thinking that if we could get at least one person from each constancy to join us.
Each person could work out what is important to them, where they stand on each issue.

Then we could compare thoughts, think about the issues we hadn't considered and then look for common ground.
We would use this as a basis for a manifesto.

Maybe that's too simplistic and wouldn't work, but we have zoom now, we could break into smaller regional groups to discuss ideas and have a spokesperson for each group to act as a liaison for ideas.

Then we go from there.

I dont think youd get very far.

I posted a thread about politics, it got about ten replies, but the same day there were loads of threads, talking about cost cutting, saving money, food banks and affording the basics.

It seems we just want to moan about things rather than look at the causes and try to fix it?

Antarcticant · 07/05/2022 12:03

But you have no idea that people based in each constituency would have the same idea.

There are things I feel strongly about that have very little support on Mumsnet as I know from past experience! I won't mention them as I don't want to start a bunfight but I very much doubt they would find a place on a Mumsnet Manifesto!
