Writing to my MP to get Boris to resign

I am thinking about writing to my MP asking him to get Boris to resign. I've had enough of his lies, his people partying, everything. Has anyone else done this? Will it do any good?

OP posts:
eagerlywaitingfor · 15/01/2022 15:07
@eagerlywaitingfor - well, that's what I thought too. But I figured that if I basically said that there's no way I'd vote for him locally if he didn't take action then maybe he'd think twice about it. I think the more people who write, the more it might make him think and maybe say / do something. I've never written to any MP about anything before and I can't be the only one who hasn't either so i'm hoping he gets a feel for the mood of the people.
My MP is Nadine Dorries. Her constituency is one of the strongest Tory seats in the country.

I've tried contacting her before, and she didn't even reply. I got a brush-off email back from someone in her office. She absolutely couldn't care less about the concerns of her constituents. She's out for herself.

ChicCroissant · 15/01/2022 15:47

I wrote to my MP after the Cummings debacle and he recently (and this really is a first) voted against Johnson in a debate. He's got a large majority but maybe he is thinking that his voting against May/for Johnson is not endearing him to his electorate. He will be getting another email from me about the leaving parties. Very different from when my DH had to leave work and I'll be pointing that out to them.

I think Truss may have damaged her leadership prospects by backing Johnson so quickly, I do think they have underestimated the public fury here. MP's offices were swamped with complaints after the Cummings-Barnard Castle, it's likely to have a similar effect this time as well.

twilightcafe · 15/01/2022 15:56
@twighlightcafe - surely she should have her eye on the next local elections. Is she in a safe Tory seat?

I've drafted something that said that I feel that the Tory MPs don't take some action then they are sanctioning that behaviour and aren't for to govern, so whilst he is PM I couldn't consider voting Tory. Not that I was going to anyway, but what does he know.
She's MP of one of the safest Tory seats in the country.

eagerlywaitingfor · 16/01/2022 11:42

They are all out for themselves if you ask me, and will jump whichever way they think will advance their careers.

Ladyladylady · 16/01/2022 12:18

I wrote to my MP to complain about Dominic Cummings and the Barnard Castle debacle. I got no reply.
I wrote again yesterday asking him to condemn the behaviour and write his letter to the 1922 committee.
I plan on writing to him every week until he replies. if he backs Boris I’m going to have to do something, not sure what but I want to make a stand on this. For me it is the last straw.

Howshouldibehave · 16/01/2022 12:23

I think it’s important to write so that MPs are aware of the feeling in their constituency.

NiceShrubbery · 16/01/2022 15:16

She's MP of one of the safest Tory seats in the country.

In these constituencies there is all the more reason to write. She needs to be made aware that safe Tory seats may soon be a thing of the past unless swift action is taken.

Thirtytimesround · 16/01/2022 16:02

Yes, I have.

Boris will never resign, he doesn’t have enough integrity to do so. The question is whether the MPs have enough integrity to remove a lying incompetent law-breaker.

So ask them. They only electrd him as leader because he convinced them that he was a man of the people who can win elections. The more people explain to his party that we want rid of BJ, the more chance there is that they’ll replace him.

NoRaceInThisHorse · 18/01/2022 15:13

I had honestly thought that constituents could trigger a by-election at any point (if enough of them agreed). Seems like I was wrong, and there is specific criteria for this to be allowed.
Shame.

HappydaysArehere · 28/01/2022 18:35

I wrote this morning as the delayed and watered down report was the last straw. I don’t hold out much hope though as when I asked him to not support Johnson in the leadership election I didn’t even receive an acknowledgement. I am in despair.

ElectraBlue · 28/01/2022 18:49

I assume you have a Tory MP, so you can ask them to send a letter to the 1922 Committee. The Committee can trigger a vote of no confidence against the current party leader if at least 54 MPs send similar letters.

Johnson is pure scum and will never resign on his own so he will have to be pushed by other Tories, which is likely to happen if they see that they are likely to lose the next election. Labour is at the top of all recent voting polls so these MPs must already be seriously concerned behind the scenes...

Chickpeabiryani · 30/01/2022 07:22

Written to my mp and received the standard ‘wait for Sue Gray’ plus what a great job Boris is doing. This was bad enough, then read on Facebook that multiple others received exact same reply word for word. Cannot wait for the May elections.

Makegoodchoices · 30/01/2022 07:59

Wrote to mine, got a letter back on HOC letter head that said nothing worth reading.

Fallagain · 30/01/2022 08:04

BoJo will never resign. That would require him to have honour and it’s very clear that he doesn’t.

BlowDryRat · 30/01/2022 08:24

I wrote to my MP and she wrote back agreeing that he has to go. She's Labour but it can't hurt.

ChicCroissant · 30/01/2022 17:07

I received an email back noting my concerns but my MP wants to wait for the report to be published before making any further comment or taking any action. Obviously if the report is watered down I'll be contacting him again!

BonnesVacances · 30/01/2022 17:14

I write to my Tory MP all the time and always get a reply. He replied this time saying that partygate was indefensible but he's waiting for the report, unless something else happens in the meantime.

So I wrote to him again yesterday telling him that something else has happened (the birthday party) and how worried I was that the PM was uncontrolled and appeared answerable to no-one. I pretty much said if we can't rely on our MPs to hold him to account, what is even the point of you?

He won't disclose private correspondence, ie to the 1922 committee, but I've asked him to take steps to restore trust in democracy.

ChicCroissant · 30/01/2022 21:39

I said something similar to my own MP BonnesVacances, that it was down to them (the MP's) to make sure that the PM was challenged over these matters. It's up to them to ask the questions and get a response, and their conduct has been shameful.

mum2jakie · 31/01/2022 21:44

I wrote to my Tory MP on Friday. No reply as yet but hope she can see that her own position may be at risk if nobody steps up against incompetent and dishonest Mr Johnson. (Don't want to pander to the 'Boris' name calling as though he's some local down the pub.)

I've also emailed the Speaker of the House of Commons to complain about the comments made around Jimmy Saville today. Completely inappropriate conduct - although that seems to be all we can expect nowadays.

nodogz · 31/01/2022 22:01

Have emailed my (very conservative, very blue) MP a few times over covid. He always replies, even if his tone is a bit sarcastic. (Im sorry that this situation has upset you)

He must be getting the message that people are pretty upset about the state if the govt and the PM is becoming indefensible.

I know quite a few people who used to be tories who are being radicalised into being non-tories by this gov. As in, joining other political parties to go out and canvas against them levels! I think political awareness is good for everyone and will lead to change hopefully.

Good call on writing to the speaker about the JS quip, completely unacceptable.

kickupafuss · 31/01/2022 22:12

I emailed my tory MP when party gate started. He emailed back (although it was probably a stock reply) and he sounded pretty fed up about the whole thing. Got the usual 'waiting for the report' as well though. I'm going to email him again now.

WTF475878237NC · 31/01/2022 22:16

I have done this OP. I don't know if it will do any good but I'm so sick of it all. I also wrote about the dreadful state of affairs regarding the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the humanitarian crisis they're in. I don't know if it makes a difference but I felt I had to say how ashamed I was of our government.

5thHelena · 31/01/2022 22:18

I wrote to mine a few weeks ago ( Tory) He responded saying he understood the strength of feeling re the parties. I'm going to write again, thanking him for his response and asking him to get the fool to resign!!!

CoffeeRunner · 31/01/2022 22:20

My MP recently gave an interview locally saying none of his constituents had contacted him expressing the opinion that Mr Johnson should resign.

The report was followed by hundreds of comments all saying "yes, I did" Grin.

He's a buffoon of the same ilk as Johnson. Even has similar hair.

Unfortunately, pop a blue rosette on a cauliflower here & it would be returned as MP.

PlanetNormal · 31/01/2022 22:27

Writing to mine would be completely pointless. I live in one of the safest Tory seats in the Midlands, and MP’s majority is several times bigger than Boris’s in Uxbridge. He knows his seat will always be safe whoever is leader so he doesn’t have to worry about Johnson’s unpopularity. He is an ambitious junior minister with his eyes on a seat in the cabinet so he is never going to rock the boat.

What a shit political system we have in this country.
