I still don't know who to vote for

I'm struggling, reading through the manifestos of all parties and if I could cherry pick there are some from each I can align with, however I dislike Boris and Jeremy and I know I am meant to vote for the party not the person but I just can't see either of them as the best possible choice.

I live in a safe Tory seat area, he's a useless MP. I want my vote to count but I'm really struggling to decide.

Just vote for Labour, it's the only realistic chance of cancelling Brexit (Lib dems will never get in). Then all we need to do is get rid of Corbyn at the next election

Moomin8 · 11/12/2019 01:21

Labour won't get a majority. The best, most ethical result we can hope for is a centre left coalition from which, hopefully this Brexit mess could also be resolved finally after all the sheer damage, division and nasty attitudes it has caused.

The people I know in RL who vote Tory are busy complaining that they earn £150k a year and don't get enough tax cuts. They're not bothered about public services or disabled people.

wafflyversatile · 11/12/2019 01:43

I've got to be honest, under normal circumstances I'd say it's time for a change now, austerity has taken its toll on the country after the last Labour government left the country penniless.

His policies of mass nationalisation, expropriation of the private sector,

It was the tories who appropriated public sector owned services for the private sector. Corbyn is just looking to reverse that theft.

Dont listen to lies like this. The last labour government did not leave us penniless. The Tories have increased our national debt enormously with their austerity measures.

The spending hes proposing is an investment in our future.

Anyway OP try a website like this to see who matches you most closely and least closely then look at the last results in your ward to see if you need to vote tactically to get closest to what you'd like.

@IsItBetter - so you’re ok with Boris leading the country - continual lying, destruction of public services, removal of freedom of movement and a no deal Brexit at the end of 2020?

Pixxie7 · 11/12/2019 05:53

Ask yourself if you think that the current government is doing well for you? if not take a leap of faith and vote labour.

Oblomov19 · 11/12/2019 06:02

I can't decide either. I wanted my vote to count by I'm not sure it does.

I need to vote for anyone who makes sure the Tory's don't get my vote, but I'm not sure who is best.

bogginmacaroni · 11/12/2019 06:13

SophieLarsen Labour most definitely did not start selling off the NHS's assets. That was John Major who began that process as I, along with other trade union members, fought against it. There is also significant evidence that the Lib Dems have very concerning links with private health care providers Spire Healthcare. They are their largest campaign donors. Also have massive vested interests in puberty blockers. What absolute joy eh?
The Tories are toxic
Vote Labour
The NHS is far too important to our country to mess around with it. Labour will save it.

sue51 · 11/12/2019 06:34

I'm a lifelong Labour supporter but I just don't recognise the party as it is now. I could never vote Conservative, Jo Swinson's woeful performance has put me off the Liberals and having seen the mess Brighton is in, Green is not an option. I am considering spoiling my ballot paper which grieves me but I can't see that any party is worthy of leadership.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 11/12/2019 06:36

Please not Conservative.

IsItBetter · 11/12/2019 07:26

It says it all that pro-Labour people like moomin are telling everyone to vote Labour for "a center left coalition". They know Corbyn is toxic to most voters but pretend he cant get in power. Dont listen to any of it, there is a real clear and present danger that Corbyn will get a majority.

As for this crap about public services and no deal Brexit, well everyone said Johnson couldnt get a revised Brexit deal from the EU... he did. And the Tories will invest more in public services as everyone recognises that they need more funding, which is now possible due to the way the economy has been handled over the last 9 years. The difference is the Tories will increase spending in a sustainable manner.

People claiming the last Labour government left budget for public services are deluded... Liam Byrne (the Labour treasury minister at the time) even left a note to the incoming 2010 coalition laughing about how the country was bankrupt...

p.s. isidewith is just a troll website with skewed questions to try to get you to vote Labour.

Parker231 · 11/12/2019 08:31

It is highly likely there will be a no deal exit at the end of 2020. Most trade experts have warned that it will be extremely difficult to strike a trade agreement covering the whole of the UK economy in such a short timescale. Comparable deals have taken as long as seven years.

Don’t believe Boris’s comments on this - he’s lied throughout the election campaign, is continuing to do so about checks in NI and his own colleagues are saying it can’t be done in such a short timescale.

Moomin8 · 11/12/2019 08:33

I don't think Corbyn is at all toxic - don't put words in my mouth.

I think we need more cross party engagement to sort out the gigantic mess that is Brexit.

And even John Major, a fairly recent conservative prime minister is telling people not to vote Conservative.

It's funny how Tory voters can never actually set out what the Conservatives are actually doing or what plans they have that are good for the U.K. - all they do is slag off Jeremy Corbyn and call people liars when we point out what amounts to fascist policies from the Tories.

Moomin8 · 11/12/2019 08:36

The note is also a load of rubbish.

The House of Lords voted down tax credit cuts when the coalition got in because they said they were clearly ideological alongside the tax cuts for the rich that were being proposed.

TheSandman · 11/12/2019 08:47

www.getvoting.org/ For tactical voting against tories.

Does this site actually work?

I just put in my postcode and all it did was list all the other mainstream candidates for my area - all it did give me a list that was excluded the Tories (obv), Ukip, Brexit Party, and the rag bag of loony Family Party and Christian fundamentalist fruitcakes that are standing - hardly helpful. I could do that with my eyes shut

But then, a Tory wouldn't win this seat if they were the only candidate standing.

TheSandman · 11/12/2019 08:50

everyone said Johnson couldnt get a revised Brexit deal from the EU... he did

No he didn't! The EU just 'Clarified' some details. Hardly a 'new deal'.

IsItBetter · 11/12/2019 09:08

it isn't highly likely there will be a no-deal Brexit at the end of 2020 at all, there is already equivalency in goods and services and it is up to uk negotiators how far they want to diverge from the current status quo.

Johnson's main aim isn't to break what we already have but to ensure that we can get new trade deals that are tailor-made for the UK without being vetoed by an unwieldy EU

TartanMarbled · 11/12/2019 10:27

Vote Labour, please.

scissy · 11/12/2019 11:58

It depends what constituency you're in OP. In my constituency in the last constituency based poll from a couple of weeks ago, the vote was split 45% conservative, 45% lib dem, 9% labour. No one knows which way it's going to go it's that close, but voting for labour where i live is splitting the left vote. Honestly, if you don't want to vote Tory look at the tactical voting sites to see what's best for where you live.

ColourMagic · 11/12/2019 12:13

"Johnson's main aim isn't to break what we already have but to ensure that we can get new trade deals that are tailor-made for the UK without being vetoed by an unwieldy EU"

Johnson does not have one single trade deal lined up. You really think we will be in a position to bargain? The US will hold all the cards, and we will hold no power in 'negotiating' with the US.

Anyone considering voting Tory who has a vested interest in the Learning, Disability & Autism Fund should look at this:

If you are a compassionate, empathetic person who cares about the NHS, children living in poverty and the most vulnerable in our society, please vote Labour.

Another 5 years of this uncaring, self-serving Tory government who’s only priority is pleasing the very rich, selling off our NHS and running the country to the ground, terrifies me.

Skysblue · 11/12/2019 13:53

If you believe that the country has been run brilliantly for the last nine years, that the economy is currently booming, and that BJ has a track record of delivering on his promises, vote Conservative.

If you believe that the last nine years have been a disaster for the country, and that BJ has a track record of lies, incompetence, and a lack of basic integrity, AND you can see some of the ways in which this could be a problem when managing a country, then vote Labour/Libdem/Green, whichever is more likely to get in where you live.

If you think that the rule of law is important, or that it’s nice to treat women with respect, also vote Labour/Libdem/Green.

If you believe whatever you read in a tabloid, vote Brexit Party/UKIP.

But whatever you do, don’t make the mistake of thinking this election is about brexit. Things are now much worse than that. It’s about food banks. About climate change. About affordable housing and healthcare. It’s about Russian social media bots. It’s about what to do in tough times: help British children living in poverty to eat, or instead give tax cuts to those who fund political lunches. It’s about whether, when Greta’s generation grow up and reach power, tell us we’re a bunch of idiots, and confiscate our pensions, we’ll have any grounds for saying that’s not fair.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 11/12/2019 14:18

Have you seen the latest?

Do some people really want this man as PM??

He just continually refuses to face scrutiny.

He's a coward not a leader.
