How do you think Brexit is going?

Let me start off by saying I'm Irish. I only know what I hear over here & it's nearly all about the border issue, which seems confused. I don't get any of the UK papers or watch UK news. Just wondering how most people in the UK think it's going?

David Davis resigned because apparently he was being frozen out/sidelined

No BritW - Davis was given the job of negotiating a deal. Probably because he said it would be the easiest negotiation in the world for him, countries would be lining up to do trade deals with us etc etc.. He has been found wanting. He was never able to grasp the detail, lied about doing the detailed assessments he should have done and did nothing but bluster and giggle when he couldn’t give an answer. He completely failed at the job he was given.

OP. It’s going badly, it couldn’t be going worse.

It's a shitstorm, as many of us guessed it would be. A complete and utter mess.

If I was the rest of the EU I would be very very pissued off with us by now. So much time wasted dealing with the British government who, in the immortal words of Malcom Tucker, are "about as much use as a marzipan dildo."

The referendum was rigged Grin

I am an EU citizen, BrittW. Can you tell me what you hate about me most? That I have never needed hospital services because I am youngish and able? I needed JSA a few times because I have been treated bad since I have been here and I have not yet learnt to shut up and squeak and mew and smile about it.

Use of a 50% threshold was wrong for a referendum - all the nations that have referendums in their constitutions use figures like 2/3 or 70% - they do this to ensure that if they go ahead with change there will be

  1. An unarguable and clear mandate for change from the voters.
  2. A valid majority so that the risks of the change are properly accepted by the electorate.

Our Brexit result satisfies neither of these criteria. The result was really a "hung jury" and we should not be proceeding with Brexit.

The BIG failure is that our MPs, our elected representatives, haven't got the wit to see this. Look at Wikipedia about supermajority and referendums etc.

We got into this mess because Britain has failed over many years to USE the EU like the other counties do. We just look for our own advantage. We are not team players. Result is that we will be USA's poodle more than ever. Read the conclusion in the book "How to lose a referendum" by Farrell and Goldsmith.
