Corbyn pledges 8,000 homes for rough sleeperswww.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-42851024

I'm not sure how that would work and it is a massive over simplified. How would bills be paid and maintained.

Also what if homes are seized where people are visiting family or in hospital.

This speaks of deprecation of rights and how could a mortgage lender ever secure on property if the government can seize properties.

Would we be heading into a police state under Labour?

How is he going to fund these 8,000 homes that's what I want to know! Also it's not just as straightforward as ppl being homeless. There are those with drug addiction, alcohol addiction and mental health issues. How are they going to support themselves once they are given one of these amazing free homes?

It's lovely being the Leader of the Opposition when we're 4 years out from an election. You can say you'll paint the sky yellow or give everyone a free unicorn and you know that nobody's ever going to hold you to it.

It's good to hear someone talking about it, even if his soundbite solution was almost instantly 'clarified'.

Simple fact is that most rough sleepers are male, and as a whole we view any male with a problem or who needs help as unattractive.

It's a lose / lose for a bloke. If they ask for help before finding themselves homeless then they get little and are more often mocked for their lack of various male characteristics such as self reliance. Best case scenario would be finding themselves below literally everyone on a social housing ladder.

If they don't ask for help then they end up homeless and without even the basics to aid their self care.

Doesn't sound too controversial to me... isn't this the least we can do for homeless people? It would cost less than £2 per year from each of us.

cdtaylornats · 12/04/2018 22:06

Don't forget the free bus & train travel for anyone under 25.

PrincessLeia80 · 27/04/2018 22:52

One of the big problems with this is how does it work? How do you select which homeless get the houses, is it an I'm going process until there are no homeless people. Then what happens is it rent free permanently, who pays the bills. Is it your own home or a rental property, are there conditions such as stay drug free, look after the property or relating to antisocial behaviour.

Being homeless is not about having a roof over your head I worked I. A soup kitchen and 95% of the people had at some point had already had a council home but lost it due to addiction or MH

You can allow people to live in Windsor castle but if you don’t first address MH and addtiction they don’t pay their rent often get drunk or high and parttake in crime or anti social behaviour and will loose the home once again

We had one guy who had MH couldnt deal with loud voices his neighbor had 3 kids one day in the holidays lost if threatened her high a knife it’s very unlikely the council will ever house him again

Also little details like their are places for alcoholics
But often they don’t want to stay in dry hostels because you can’t drink

@raysan1 and the other issue you have is who wants to live next door to large groups who have serious issues like drugs will they be living next door to JC aim his million pound home of in my community that already has so many issues with drugs and drink but yes let’s bus anothe hundred more people who relay totally on services that we don’t have
