Minority Government

Under what circumstances could Corbyn form one? I just heard it on tv news, but only caught the very end of the sentence/report. The speaker seemed to be saying that when May fucks up Corbyn could form a MG.

Is that right?

Maybe if there is a vote of no confidence in TM and her government or they are at a stand still, JC could form a minority government?

Artisanjam · 09/06/2017 14:45

Yes - short answer!

If May loses any more seats (by-elections) or the confidence of dup do she can't get anything through, the queen will ask Corbyn to form a govt.

Because of his number of MPs he can't do anything in his own - it would have to be generally agreed between all non conservative parties.

Yes he can in theory... but biggest party always goes first and she's got DUP so done deal. He can but only if TM fails there's quite a large difference in votes. It ain't going to happen unless Conservative party disintegrates.
More likely the party stabs her and we have a new election within a yr as any new Tory leader would want to try to achieve a majority.

To be able to pass legislation corbyn would need literally every other party bar Tories it's not realistic.

The sitting PM goes first - just like Gordon Brown did in 2010. He couldn't form a working coalition, but had to stay on a PM until Cameron/Clegg stated that they believed they could, then everyone had to go and see the Queen, GB resigned as PM and Cameron took over.

There's only been one successful vote of No Confidence since WW2, and that led to the dissolution of Parliament, not the opposition getting a crack at it.

So not likely at all. Tories aren't going to risk anything for a while, are they?
