Politics

Is there a way to get involved in politics without having to join a particular party?

Just that really.

I've been inspired to get a bit more interested and involved in politics; but I don't really feel I belong to a specific party.

I voted for a particular party in this election; but I have voted for other parties in the past and may vote for others in the future; plus I massively disagree with one of the 'big' manifesto pledges of the party I voted for so don't feel I could enthusiastically contribute.

So does anyone know if there's a way to get more involved in politics in general without joining one of the parties?

Local politics?

Or perhaps adopting a single issue as your thing and writing to individual parliamentarians about it?

Or studying wider political ideologies like socialism, neoliberalism etc?

Join your community council.

Start a local campaign.

Join a charity.

You could get involved in an aspect of politics like the Electoral Reform Society? You could study politics? Or blog about it? Become an election official?

Thanks both.

See, this is how rubbish I am - I thought local politics were party politics! I think I need to do some googling once the general election madness has died down a bit - it's flooding the results a bit! (My constituency is apparently very interesting politically - BBC has called it "One to watch"?!?)

Have already applied for a volunteer position with a charity, so fingers crossed I'm accepted!

I'd been wondering the same thing OP. Don't align with any of the parties but would like to be more involved generally.
