What's the youth turnout like at your polling station?

They say they youth vote could swing it from a landslide to a hung parliament. But it also depends on the constituency.

What's the youth turnout like where you live? I can't say because I'm voting by proxy. But I think it would be interesting to collaborate!

What percentage of people are under 35 (roughly)? Are you in a safe seat or marginal? Which party current holds your seat?

Any other thoughts?

I was the only person in my (bloody awkward to get to) polling station this morning. There isn't an easy way to walk to where it is, which I'd imagine puts off people who can't drive there and aren't very motivated to vote. I have no idea why they chose this location as a polling station (I live in suburbia on the edge of a city, not somewhere that you might expect a polling station to have no pavement leading to it from anywhere).

HannahWayes · 08/06/2017 16:25

Sorry but how can you tell how many 'youths' attended today just by looking?

I'm 19 and look about 28 in corporate clothing and work heels. and tired, sleep deprived face

There is also the assumption they would vote Labour.

A fair few I know are voting LibDem and a few Tory.

cathyandclare · 08/06/2017 16:49

I was the only one at ours, the people there said it had been busy though

BishopBrennansArse · 08/06/2017 16:52

The turnout at ours is low full stop.

ajandjjmum · 08/06/2017 16:55

On the whole Hannah people look their age-ish.

bigTillyMint · 08/06/2017 16:58

Lots of under 30's in the queue this morning, but then we are a safe Labour seat.

whatwouldrondo · 08/06/2017 17:01

Looks like being a record turnout here, lots of young voters. I'd say 50% under 30, lots of 18-25s, and it is not a student community. Libdem / Tory London marginal

JiminnyCricket · 08/06/2017 17:09

Midlands tory seat for the last 5 elections - I turned up at 7am and stood in a queue behind 7 people younger than me (I'm 26)

Went to do proxy votes for my parents at a different polling station, same constituancy and walked straight in, only 2 other people in there, one about 30ish and the other 60+.

NotCitrus · 08/06/2017 17:13

Two other voters when I went at midday, one young, one old. Turnout a bit up compared to the referendum (tally on the door). Inner London probably safe Labour seat.

Brighteyes27 · 08/06/2017 17:15

Tory seat here but hoping that will change. Polling station and car parking spaces outside very busy with over 70's driving up to vote in droves mid morning. I am day off today and I was the youngest there by a country mile and I am 51!!!! Hopefully more young people will vote.

DreichAgain · 08/06/2017 17:45

A couple of Young people around at ours this am.

This is in Scotland.

My teenager says pals are voting SNP or Conservative along independence lines. No Labour voters in his group!

We are in a former Labour now safe SNP seat.

IWillCrushYouLikeABug · 08/06/2017 17:46

We don't have "youth" in my area. It's where tories go to die. I'm a youngster in my mid 30s

Atasteofcreme · 08/06/2017 17:47

I voted earlier at our very rural station.

Teller said "gosh your quite young, first one with kids today!"

I'm 33!

LouiseBrooks · 08/06/2017 17:48

Anecdotal evidence is suggesting a relatively high turnout amongst the young and also some disabled people although I would expect many disabled to do postal votes (depending on disability of course.)

However none of this matters if they all live in relatively safe Labour seats.

Freshprincess · 08/06/2017 17:51

There was a bit of a queue at mine ( hope that's a good sign for turnout overall) it was mostly people my age (40s) and a lot of older retired people (which is the demographic round here).
There were two very enthusiastic girls voting for the first time.
As per other threads today, no police, refreshments or dogs.

Alliwanttodoissleep · 08/06/2017 17:51

when I went I have never seen it so full of people my age (23). 6 people in front of me who were early 20s it looked and loads coming in a group as I left they were on their way to uni by sounds of it so maybe younger than 20. This was at 9.30 this morning. First time I have had to queue as well at that time! Gives me hope.

Danglingmod · 08/06/2017 17:52

Voted at 4.30. Just me, Dh and a couple of seventy-somethings there.

Marginal constituency - university city - but a more "affluent" ward.

HelenMcHelen · 08/06/2017 17:57

Village polling station here so tumbleweed. I had DS2 (19) proxy vote though and DS1 (21) voted earlier.

GlitterGlue · 08/06/2017 17:57

Well there was just me and dc this morning at 7:30am. A younger chap did look to be on his way, but it would have been stretching it to have called him a youth.

MrsELM21 · 08/06/2017 17:59

We are in a marginal here, just voted 5 mins ago, really pleased what I saw, loads of people there, lots of people my age (30's) gave me a bit of hope!

SomeOtherFuckers · 08/06/2017 18:04

My polling station is all students so 95% are under 30 ... massive turn out

SomeOtherFuckers · 08/06/2017 18:05

And most of us vote at uni because they're not safe seats x

HelenMcHelen · 08/06/2017 18:08

Both my uni DC are in very safe seats so chose to vote at home.

GetHappy · 08/06/2017 18:16

We were youngest at 29. Not many people there, especially compared to Brexit!
