Just to be clear I'm not a Tory and historically have voted Lib Dem / Labour - depending on the candidate. Probably I would describe myself as Centre Left.
Although I like the sound of Corbyn's promises and find his approach on the debates refreshing - I'm really not convinced of his ability to be PM nor that of the current shadow cabinet. I also am concerned about Corbyn's ability to negotiate a Brexit deal.
I've found Theresa May's performance at the debates to be fairly uninspiring. However I actually thought a lot of the manifesto was quite good - if you take it at face value it seemed to indicate a bit of a sea change in Tory policy, i.e. a greater focus on the public good rather than bending to the untrammelled will of the markets.
I thought the social care idea was a brave step in tackling a real issue and was fundamentally about sharing wealth - which seemed a very unTory like idea. I also like the fact that the Tories are not committing to the hugely expensive Triple Lock which again seems to show they are no longer blindly pandering to the Over 60s at the expense of the young.
So I wondered if TM really wants to move the party more to the left and a bigger majority would allow her to do this.
It might also allow to get a saner version of Brexit rather than having to pander to the extremists in the party at present.
I will probably get flamed for this but I also wondered that whether growing up as a vicar's daughter, TM might have been put in contact with many different sides of society and might be less devoid of compassion than her predecessors.
But am I being hopelessly naive?
