Not sure how to vote. In my area the Cons are going to romp home.

I live in a Tory safe seat. The MP basically got over 60% of the vote with no one breathing down his neck in 2015. I am pretty sure that the Con candidate is going to romp it home again next week however I think their margin will be reduced as my town is going down hill rapidly because of the austerity cuts.

I really do not know how to vote next week. I have no loyalty to any of the parties and am not that impressed with any of them. However, I do think the Cons need taking down a peg or 2. Labour, LibD and UKIP all came within a few hundred votes of each other so we have no clear 2nd party that could oust the Cons. There are only the 4 main parties on the ballot.

Not sure what to do. I can't tactically vote and feel I may be wasting a vote. Any suggestions what to do in this case?

Wild - see Clavinova's post. The Land Value Tax is in the Labour Manifesto it is part of their policy. They haven't decided yet what percentage to charge that will be done with consultation if they win the election.

Clavinova · 04/06/2017 19:52

Surely if Labour are openly calling it nonsense and that they have no plans for it then that's the case?

Do you have the names of any Labour MPs calling it nonsense? The article in your link just refers to an anonymous spokesman.

It's mentioned in the Labour Manifesto, the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer is a member of the Land Tax Campaign and he lists the Land Value Tax on his own web page - what more evidence do you need.

Sneaky aren't they?

I doubt if the people who would be hit by Land Value Tax would vote Labour anyway!

It only gets a brief mention in the Labour Manifesto as something to be investigated and would replace council tax, which is no longer fit for purpose. Many people would be better off.

I would be very much hit by the land value tax and I'm planning to vote Labour. I have 20 acres of land plus a large garden in an area commutable to London. Land is currently managed by a local conservation charity and is in no way financially productive or anything.

I've never voted Labour before but planning to do so for the first time as Lib Dems have no chance here.

I genuinely do not believe that Labour would consider doing this - it would be completely nonsensical. However, due to the points clavinova raised I have contacted the local Labour candidate who has assured me that they have no plans whatsoever for a Land Value Tax.

She's tried to comment on the Tory candidates FB page about it and has been deleted and blocked. As has anyone who has tried to question him on anything, even people stating they will vote Tory. Honestly, if anyone has time go on Damian Green's FB page and ask him a question.

Your local Labour candidate for the upcoming election only received 10% of the vote in the recent County Council elections last month - what knowledge or influence does she have over Labour policies? John McDonnell is Labour's Shadow Chancellor and a member of the Land Tax Campaign.

Wild - you are being naive if you think that this policy won't be introduced. It will be. There is no way that the top 5% of earners can pay for all the things Labour wants to do. They will need to raise money by other means and this is one of them.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 05/06/2017 11:04

Wild - It is really irrelevant what Damian Green is saying at the end of the day IT IS IN THE LABOUR MANIFESTO PAGE 86 UNDER COMMUNITIES. Rebecca Long-Bailey said in an interview "we have set out our initial tax rises in our Manifeso" they will need to do those and more.
