This is the Shadow Education Secretary.

Having said that, I can't bear watching T May on TV, she comes across so badly. But at least she doesn't come across as incompetent.

There was a person with 20+ (I am pretty sure) years of teaching secondary school aged children in a post of major educational importance - Chris Woodhead of Ofsted. He has done more damage than any of the education secretaries of the last 20 years put together me thinks.

The main thing is that in England there is no desire to go to evidence-based education policy. There is a mixture between "let's go back to basics" and "let's try this borrowed from XYZ country". I wish there was a panel or a committee of some sorts with educationalists - researchers and practitioners - together with some people with finacial expertise to cost it as necessary. Keep the bloody politicians out of this altogether! Similarly to NHS. Although this is proving to be very hard battle to sustain, obioviously.

As for the USA - I have no words, but this is another topic for another thread.

Chris Woodhead stopped teaching in 1976. He started teaching in about 1968 and his history on wilkipedia shows he switched schools a lot.

Chris Woodhead always struck me as someone who couldn't hack it in the classroom and got himself into management. He also lived with a former pupil.... yuck.

I never thought he was any good.

JC's hands are tied by the fact lots of Labour MPs will not serve in his shadow cabinet so he has to make do with those who will. That said, Angela Eagle probably is as capable of fixing education in this country as Gove was but not as good as persuading the media / public of it.

I'm not convinced by JC. But something has to change and I don't see anything Theresa May is proposing changing anything.
