I cannot deduce if it is serious or they are just trying to wind people up. It makes Fox News seem rather reasonable.

I quite like Crosstalk. It is too short only30 minutes and they have too many contributors 3 or 4 plus the host which means they can't really develop ideas in any depth, but it is still one of the most serious discussion programmes on TV.

I used to love the old Crossfire on US TV with real Conservative Pat Buchanan (that was better as it was head to head and therefore more in-depth) and also the John McLaughlin show which had Pat and three other contributors and which was less hectic than Crosstalk..

'I cannot deduce if it is serious'

It is definitely serious, but too short and not in-depth enough.

Propaganda never is.

Its a Ruskie mouthpiece, present company included.

If one wants something news 'different', especially Middle east related, Al-Jazeera on Freeview 133 is very informative - often provide some history, often going back decades.

Their perspective on Western politics can also be interesting.

claig · 01/10/2015 14:36

'present company included'

Are you a mouthpiece for the Russians?

claig · 01/10/2015 14:44

Stitches, how often have you watched it? Was it the furst time. It might have been a not very good episode. Usually it is pretty informative.

claig · 01/10/2015 14:47

Some other good shows on there are "Going Underground" and the "Keiser Report". "Boom Bust" is not bad for finance and they often have big names on there such as former Presidential candidate Ron Paul, or good US fund managers etc, but in general it is again not in-depth enough and not long enough.

claig · 01/10/2015 15:03

Sky reporting that "Saudi Arabia has demanded an immediate end to Russian military action".

The Saudis don't really understand what is going on. They think they have some influence.

Sorry, wrong thread

claig- i have been aware of RT for years and used to like the Aloyna show late at night. I have been aware of Cross Talk for a while and -maybe I am just being thrown by the hosts voice which would generously be described as whiny and snivelling- I cannot believe he gets away with it all the time. Btw-I am not anti-russia or anything.
There is another show late at night- cant remember what its called- where the host manages to constantly attack USA while managing to maintain a veneer of being a legitimate news broadcaster. Peter Laville should try and emulate him.

I do like the Kaiser Report though-the host is funny

You are right and he is also definitely pro Russian but doesn't hide it. However, he is knowledgeable too.

Don't know that oine, but there are some rubbish US Russai Today shows where progressive comedians etc always spout progressive propaganda, but that is similar to the BBC and Channel 4 and I don't watch that type of thing.

Yes, I like Keiser.

megletthesecond · 01/10/2015 15:43

I watch The Keiser Report every so often but it's too late to watch it regularly.

Isitmebut · 01/10/2015 15:50

Hahahahahaha ... what a set up, 'have you seen', in other worlds the more tuning in to Russian propaganda the better, for Russia.

claig · 01/10/2015 16:28

megletthesecond, they repeat the Kesier shows at all differnt times over a few day period so it is on at 20.30 or 22.30 and other times on different days.

StitchesBurstinBath · 01/10/2015 17:43

isitme- no british person could be seduced by the propaganda on Russia Today.

We collectively are perhaps prone to gullibility and easily deceived- but we are not that bad.

'but there are some rubbish US Russai Today shows where progressive comedians etc always spout progressive propaganda'

I think I may have seen them- they are so lame I can't believe it. You can almost hear the moment a sound technician presses the button for laughter because the production values are so bad. Generally, when I see RT I am reminded of the state broadcasts in that movie with the guy in the Guy Fawkes mask.

Yes, dire stuff. And the disappointing thing is that the main host on one of the shows is Jesse Ventura's son. I like Jesse, but his son is an unfunny progressive who thinks that shouting and pressing a laughter button is funny.
The other comedians are no better.

However, there are some excellent shows on there - Keiser and Worlds Apart with interviews with top professors and UN officials and World Bank types who are on the whole anti Russia but the Russian/Ukrainian interviewer is very clever and gets good interviews. Sphie Shevardnadze is good as well - she has interviewed UKIP for 30 minutes, Le Pen and other big figures.

Russia Today tends to interview good non-mainstream US conspiracy types or it uised to (not so much lately) - they used to have Alex Jones on there, Webster Tarpley etc.
