Charles Kennedy dies aged 55

I was quite shocked when I heard the news headlines at 6.30am. Breaking news on the BBC.

Charles Kennedy always seemed like a decent man. I know he had his struggles with alcoholism, and nothing has been said yet about cause of death so it may be unrelated, but he did come across as quite an open and jovial sort. Even though I didn't usually agree with his politics I could respect him. Such a shame.

Yes, was also taken aback when I saw this on the morning headlines. Very young man.

Sad news.

So young!

He always seemed a decent bloke.

Very sad, he had young children didn't he? The alcohol finally caught up with him it seems.

I've just seen the Paddy Ashdown interview, which went through political achievements - being the youngest MP of his time, being party leader, being totally right in opposition to the warmongers, leading parliamentary party with the most seats ever.

And most of all being likeable, and in touch with the electorate, which being a real person with beliefs (not like manicured politicians of today).

They also had Farron on, who said something along the lines of 'I'm meant to be here to talk about the politician, but I'm just sad about my mate'

Charles was married with one young son.

No word on cause of death, other than 'not suspicious'.

He lost his seat in this year's election, after 32 years.

How tragic. He was a decent guy. :(

RIP Charles Kennedy.

So, so sad. Just a young man, really.

And a real person - a genuine, warm, open, flawed person. There's very few people in that mould in the world of politics.

Feeling very sad today.

It is really tragic. He seemed like a lovely man. At least his son will be left with the legacy of a father admired universally.
