Yup.

A friend of mine may be affected by this. Her employer has already said there are no extra hours. Shes tried looking for a part time job but the ones shes seen, the hours overlap with the job shes already got.

I didn't see that coming. Hmm They should start a thread on here before setting up any more policies.

@LadySybil The changes were announced in the budget that was a year ago. Truth is that the old system discriminated against single parents and needed to be evened up. Single parents had to work for 16 hours a week and still do. Couples could get away with only working 8 hours a week each and still claim. Now couples (not singles) have to work for 24 hours a week between them to claim.... still skewed just slightly less badly.

Correction... One member of the couple had to work 16 hours but the other could do nothing at all.

Smile Thank you, that makes more sense now. It's still very difficult for employers/employees to create extra hours though.

i thought for a minute that the mum i know might have to do some of the extra hours her employer keeps asking her to do....but she won't as she's a single parent. its hard on the people who can't find extra work, but i've no sympathy for people like her.
