They can't stand the improvement in standards due to competition in provision, putting pupils rather than union teachers first, and the death of the bog-standard comprehensive.

More power to Michael Gove's elbow!

my dp and i have both lost jobs in the private sector and i imagine there are lots more like us

when you have a job it's easy to complain, when you've lost everything it's hard to find compassion when they didn't support us..

minimathsmouse · 07/04/2012 23:31

"ponce around as window dressing, pretending that's democracy" I suppose someone has to do it.

"I care not what puppet is placed on
the throne of England to rule the Empire, ...
The man that controls Britain's money
supply controls the British Empire.
And I control the money supply." Nathan Rothschild.

We are in hock to the world bank and the IMF, georgie porgie et al can not stand in the way of privatisation because that is what is demanded of us. It is all to do with the conditionality of the loans. However I don't see why teachers should sacrifice their pensions to pay back private investors and I certainly object to the idea of people like Murdoch running schools.

"the government will have to increase their offer to attract them" why? serious question, when the end result will be that all schools will most likely fall into the hands of private profiteers. If Gove and chums can disadvantage schools under LEA control, they will and they will then make the case that all schools need to be made academies.

rabbitstew · 08/04/2012 00:07

niceguy2 - you are deluded if you think academies and free schools are there to give more power to headteachers. The government is still interfering as much as it likes in what subjects it expects to be taught (to ALL children, regardless of ability or end destination), how it would like children to be tested and what it will put in its league tables. All it is doing at the moment is cutting out local authorities, trying to get rid of the trade union presence in schools and giving any old Tom, Dick or Harry the chance to do the hard sell on why it should get its hands on taxpayers' money and have a stab at running a school or two. I seriously doubt this will in any way improve the situation for the vast majority of parents or children, but I can see that it could make the schools lottery even bigger.

Teachers are lambasted much of the time. It is cruel. I do not believe private sector employees are so much more efficient . It is what executives tell themselves as they hike their wages 10 times the rate of anyone else since 2001.
Teachers are educated graduates doing a professional job and deserve to maintain conditions of adequate pension.

And as for terrible teachers they do not survive among dissenting pupils.
The student voice is so audible it is practically screaming in modern school.

OP , you do not know what you are talking about - you just want to blast anyone vaguely liberal and with an ounce of compassion and decency. I'm afraid your post does not make you seem decent or respectable.

Teachers are not babysitters they have a right to take action for a genuine cause.

Dear teachers, enjoy Easter![busmile] The pressure of exams will soon be upon pupils and you all.

Mrsrobertduvall · 08/04/2012 13:16

My dad was in NASUWT.
Hardly militant.

chipstick10 · 08/04/2012 14:28

I am not in agreement at all re the strike.

cece · 08/04/2012 14:41

The more I find out about Gove and his 'brilliant' ideas I more I worry about the future of education in this country.

He seems set on destroying the Unions and demotivating teachers.

He also seems intent on making the divide between rich and poor even greater. Sad

saladfingers · 08/04/2012 14:48

You quote The Sun as your source??
That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time!!!

JosephineCD · 08/04/2012 14:56

Cutting their own throats, is the phrase that springs to mind.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 08/04/2012 15:05

well, they don't strike very much because on the last march, none of them knew what to chant! Grin

rabbitstew · 08/04/2012 15:59

Not teachers cutting their own throats - it's the British public collectively cutting its own throat.

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/04/2012 13:58

mrswoodentop

"I suspect they couldn't do mine either though"

we will never know unless you tell us what you do.

mrswoodentop · 09/04/2012 14:21

My point about the press and public painting teachers as never happy is borne out by article in The Times about how teachers are unhappy despite, having moaned about red tape for trips, that the ted tape is now being simplified.

Of course in reality the situation is more complex but this is how it is being reported,if the teachers are to get the public onside they need to get their communications and PR sorted.

By the way I am an Accountant ,I was just making the point that we all have different jobs and should respect that .

t0lk13n · 09/04/2012 15:24

It is very stressful taking other people`s children on trips...red tape removed or not!

mrswoodentop · 09/04/2012 15:33

I agree that's why I am saying the teachers need to be careful as the press are reporting it ins way which is not going to help them

t0lk13n · 09/04/2012 15:41

The press will be negative whether we strike or not...because everyone has been to school so know how to teach! Hmm

JuliaScurr · 09/04/2012 15:43

Oh, yes - the genius of the private sector will save us all. Just look at Northern Rock or RBS - no, wait...

JosephineCD · 09/04/2012 16:57

I definitely think that teachers need a shake up. A lot of them are just too smug and rich. We need to sack the bad ones and put the fear of god into the average ones. The whole curiculum is drastically outdated and too many teachers just use their position to indoctrinate children, and leave them leaving school at 16 with no idea of what they are supposed to do with their lives.

JosephineCD

good to see that some posters are posting drivel

Feenie · 09/04/2012 17:48

Rich?

JosephineCD, what an incredibly stupid thing to say.

minimathsmouse · 09/04/2012 18:57

It isn't teachers that need shaking up, its politicians, that are so far removed from reality, are you a politician Josephine? if not you'd be excellent and at the end of it you'd receive a gold plated pension.

Notice how MPs aren't losing pension rights and despite the huge level of iineptitude they aren't being sacked.

tethersend · 09/04/2012 19:00

LFN has long been known to be working on PR for the Labour Party by making all Conservative supporters seem unhinged- I reckon she's moonlighting for the NUT now Wink

Feenie · 09/04/2012 19:13

Massive long holidays, too.......

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/04/2012 19:21

with reguard to MPs its interesting to note that they don't have an "independent" body that continually monitors their effectiveness.
