I have warmed to Boris and cooled towards Ken personally.

Ken. Because he loves London and cares about it. Boris just loves the position and sees it as a stepping stone to being PM. Plus, Ken was part of getting the Olypmics here and whatever else you think about them I think it would be nice for him to be the mayor when they happen rather than Boris taking all the credit, as he's done for other things that were started under Ken but merely came to fruition under Boris (like the bike scheme). Yes, the bendy buses weren't great - though now I have child in a buggy I like them more as there's more space for buggies and wheelchair users!

Bendy buses clog up traffic really badly, and were particularly bad for blocking pedestrian crossings - bus drivers who seem oblivious to the fact their buses are so damn long there is not enough room for them to stop anywhere without blocking a crossing every five minutes!

On a more serious note they are so long the front half doesn't know what the back half is doing - i had a friend who sat on the back of a bendy bus which swang out into the path of a lorry, the window smashed and went all over her - and the driver carried on driving!

It took about half a mile for the passengers at the back of the bus to get the message to the front to tell the driver to stop as there had been an accident. Very lucky for her that it was just emergency glass shattering and not a more serious accident.

The bendy bus accidents which ended in fatalities were just horrific - driver couldn't see when someone was stepping off the bus at the back exit and trapped them in the doors when driving off, half in & half out of the bus. I was so relieved when they were phased out. That's about the only BIG TICK I can give Boris.

Ken "love London"?

Does anybody on here actually REMEMBER the GLC?? And the money that Ken squandered before County Hall then was allowed to become a Marriott hotel???

Am now fan of Boris-but please folks not Ken again. If he was a stick of rock, he would read EVIL in the middle .

I'd rather see Jedward in charge frankly!

As Kate Bush put it in the 80s:

Who is the man we all need?
(KEN!!)
Who is the funky sex machine?
(KEN!!)
Who is the leader of the GLC?
(KEN!!)
Who is the man we all need?
(KEN!!)

Composhat -dear God . I don't know if that makes me feel more old or more despairing!
Grin

I'm no fan of Boris as previously stated but would have absoloutely anybody instead rather than Ken. He has been allowed to get away with so many unforgiveable things to allow him the opportunity again would be a travesty.

Why is it only ever one of these two?

(I'm sure there is a good reason, it's just I live miles away in the sticks.)

Kez - just like the general elections, it's pretty much always a 2 horse race between Labour and Tory. Even with second-preference voting, no-one else is really going to get a look-in.

As to why those 2 parties keep selecting buffoonish/cartoonish people as their candidates instead of real serious politicians...your guess is as good as mine!

Keep Boris.

If we can't keep Boris there has to be someone else out there, just as long as its NOT Ken.

Why is there only a choice of these two morons?

Cannot stand Boris. Ken was born to be London Mayor and I will almost certainly vote for him. He is innovative and dedicated and sometimes misguided in his associations but he'll take the city onwards and upwards.

Shame we're not hearing more about Siobhan Benita though.

Ohhh - now if Oona King had been up she would have had my vote. She always seems very human, unlike so many of the westminsterbots.
Paddick probably won't get enough votes to make an impact, same with the other candidates, so we are down to Ken v Boris.
in all honesty, a plague on both their houses - i think they are broadly as good/bad as each other, but.... i just can't vote for Ken.

Ken.

I loathe Boris. The only plus for him imo is that he's quite lazy. Think of all the eeevil he could do if only he could be arsed

Loathe Boris and his buffoon act.

Will vote for Ken but wish London had credible candidates from all parties and independents like they do in grown-up cities across the world.
