So what are the Coalition policies which everyone hates?

Every now and then I hear some suggestion from the Coalition which I think has some potential, but mostly what I hear sounds wrong, absurd, or downright evil. Are they actually evil? Let's make a list of all their mad, bad and evil policies. I'll get the ball rolling:

  1. Workfare for disabled and terminally ill people. (well that pretty much concludes the question about them being evil...)

Please add more!

  1. Destroying the NHS
Bag0fsmeggyDicks · 18/02/2012 23:54

Privatization of prisons, Schools and The Health Bill, Tuition fees, abolition of legal aid.

MayaAngelCool · 18/02/2012 23:59

Okay, so we have so far:

  1. Workfare for disabled and terminally ill people.
  2. Destructive Health Bill
  3. Privatisation of prisons
  4. University tuition fees

Smeggy, what do you mean by 'schools'? What specifically are you angry about?

Abolition of legal aid - didn't Blair's government do this?

Privatising schools, possibly? The academies programme is basically a front for privatisation.

  1. The Universal Credit - throwing children out of their homes and communities, amongst other things. If they were genuinely concerned about the cost of private rents, they'd build more social housing (which would also boost the economy) or introduce rent controls. But they aren't, so they will just hit the poor hard, again.

targeting disabled people and causing anti sn hatred

trixymalixy · 19/02/2012 00:10

Charging the parent making the claim through the CSA (i.e. The mother) and then skimming some money off the top. Literally taking food out of children's mouths..

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2012 00:12

I agree with Edam.

Bag0fsmeggyDicks · 19/02/2012 00:27

Yes, the HB changes, absolutely dreadful.

Although Legal aid is still currently available, they are looking into making it null and void, so only the well off with have legal advice Angry.

The proposed changes to the forensic agencies,
Cuts to police and other essential public sectors.
Writing off colossal tax bills for their friends and associates

Forced labour is wrong for anyone, not just the disabled and those that are too ill to work.

No one seems to care for the regular jobseeker , What about those that are over the age of 25 and out of work? Is it ok for them to be exploited?

Didn't they say recently that they wanted people to work through retirement?

Bunch of tossers, there aren't enough jobs to go around all the unemployed. Let alone the elderly and disabled.

Forrestgump · 21/02/2012 13:10

for us ... the scrapping of child benefit for couples with at least one higher rate taxpayer (it should be awarded based on a house hold income, we are going to lose it anycase, but I find it very unfair)

The proposal to scrap tax relief on higher rate pensions and 50% tax.

EdithWeston · 21/02/2012 13:14

Workfare was first introduced by the Labour government. It's wrong to ascribe the principle to the current Govt, though they are responsible for an expansion.

Ditto academies.

  1. causing havoc in the NHS

  2. social cleansing via housing benefit cuts

  3. workfare full stop. It is just exploitation. Stacking shelves isn't giving them valuable skills it's just free labour.

  4. scrapping EMA. People don't realise that £50 per month for bus fares is too much for some people to afford.

  5. cutting legal aid

  6. charging the parent who needs maintenance to use the CSA. Since the majority of these will be women it's just another way to kick single mums.

  7. making working families worse off via tax credit changes.

OpinionatedMum · 21/02/2012 15:39
  1. increasing tuition fees

  2. Free schools.

  3. unfair way they administered child benefit cuts.

Orwellian · 21/02/2012 18:14

I am against;

  1. Privatisation of the NHS.
  2. Child benefit cuts to higher rate taxpayers.
  3. Cuts to benefits for the severely disabled/terminally ill.
  4. Tax credit cuts workers.

I agree with the following;

  1. Overall benefit cap.
  2. Housing benefit cap.
  3. Capping council tax.
  4. Reducing the public sector.
  5. Free schools.
  6. Some of the cuts to legal aid.
  7. Raising the no of hours you need to work to be entitled to wtc.
  8. Changes to the way social housing need is assessed.

I am undecided on the following;

  1. Burning of witches.
  2. Extinction of the dinosaurs.
  3. Kidnapping of fluffy bunnies.

Yes, I am a nasty, evil, child eating Tory.

All of the above, plus my personal gripe- their refusal to employ more midwives and invest in maternity services. The state of maternity services as it is damaging women, children and families and its going to cost the country an awful lot in the long run, financially and socially.
