Absolutely.

ProgressivePatriot · 02/12/2011 14:23

i wholeheartedly agree. but with a nickname like mine it's not surprising!

maypole1 · 02/12/2011 22:17

God have you all one made time to back away from the guardian and put the hummus away

Billy Bragg is a champaign socialist

Is as rich as red ed

Ryoko · 02/12/2011 23:16

Exactly he's a cunt, a cunt who stood side by side with Blair at one point.

Charlie Brooker for P.M!

DazzleII · 02/12/2011 23:21

Yes, cos we need more male candidates.

Ryoko · 02/12/2011 23:27

Fine lets just elect a golden tamarin, human/lizard hybrids have had there grubby hands on the title for far too long.

DazzleII · 02/12/2011 23:30

Too true.

breadandbutterfly · 03/12/2011 09:20

Nothing wrong in being rich per se - he earned his cash fair and square, by making records people wanted to buy, not by forcing people to work for slave labour wages.

Plus I'd do him - not many potential PM candidates I can say that for.

Thought I'd lower the tone nicely. Grin

breadandbutterfly · 03/12/2011 09:22

Yes, I really did say that.

But frankly, anyone got any better candidates for PM? UK based - Aung San Suu Kyi say, out of the question...

scaevola · 03/12/2011 09:23

I remember seeing him on Red Wedge. Great gig, but superficial politics and I haven't seen much change. He's another critic with no alternative but glib soundbites.

scaevola · 03/12/2011 09:25

Nomination for good candidate for PM: General Sir Rupert Smith.

crazycrackernanna · 03/12/2011 09:28

ttosca for PM

kumquatsarethelonelyfruit · 03/12/2011 09:31

I'd vote for Joanna Lumley.

dawntigga · 03/12/2011 09:32

breadandbutterfly Can I have him afterwards?

IfWeCan'tHaveBillyBraggCanWeHaveMartinSheen?Tiggaxx

randommoment · 03/12/2011 09:32

I'll be PM if you like. Start by shooting everyone who complained about Jeremy Clarkson before seeing the context. Especially the silly moo from Unison.

rightlymoaningminnie · 03/12/2011 09:33

David Mitchell.

I think he would make cuts in all the non-jobs/quangos. He could give a 2 minute address to the nation at 9pm each night, saying, 'Don't smoke, drink in moderation, don't be racist, don't be sexist, don't be disablist. Be nice to your kids and have a good night's sleep.'

And then he could tell us all a little topical joke.

Disputandum · 03/12/2011 11:06

I seem to remember him saying that he would withold his taxes and risk jail if RBS staff received their bonuses. It struck me as particularly juvenile at the time, but I haven't heard anything about it since...assume he's in prison for his principles right now is he?

CatPower · 03/12/2011 11:30

I think my copy of the MN Socialist Rulebook must have got lost in the post, as I've never heard of the rule that states "thou must live in a grubby bedsit in London."

fastweb · 03/12/2011 11:39

No!

As much as I love(d) Billy, I want Bill Bailey for PM.

fastweb · 03/12/2011 11:52

as I've never heard of the rule that states "thou must live in a grubby bedsit in London

Shades of grey rather than black and white, innit.

S'like people tend to see the hypocrisy of things like...being completely random here...but taking advantage of tax loop holes by changing your reisdency elsewhere, and flying you hat places first class....while bemoaning poverty and exhorting other people with far far less to make far far larger sacrifices in relative terms.

So BB in a ice home in a nice area, probably wouldn't get people's goats.

But a massive mansion, or an opulant (rather than merely quite comfortable) lifestyle stands in stark contrast with personal values stated.

Basically a message sounds like "do as I say, not do as I do" if you stick to talking the talk, but not walking the walk.

And that whiffs a little of hypocrisy, which doesn't inspire confidence.

breadandbutterfly · 03/12/2011 12:07

I have a problem with the whole champagne socialist tag, personally - a made-up stick by the right with which to beat the left.

I am not socialist because I dream of us all living in squalor together - I am socialist because i would like everybody to live in a mansion or equivalent.

There is nothing inherent in socialism which says life must or should be miserable.

breadandbutterfly · 03/12/2011 12:11

moondog - I'm wiping my eyes, in case the words on the page change, but still can't get away from the fact that you appear to be the only person ever with sufficient front to attempt to quote The Daily Mash as a serious news source.

Please reassure me - you do know IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A PISSTAKE, DON'T YOU? Shock

moondog - in that one one post you have destroyed whatever remaining shred of credibility you once had. That post really takes the
