Strike day - are you striking, demonstrating or Christmas shopping?

Just interested really, colleagues discussing their Christmas shopping plans for Wed, sort of annoyed me as I'm not striking (different union) and will be covering for them all day. But then I guess they're not getting paid. What will you be doing? Is it okay to just have the day off or should strikers be manning the picket lines?

I think it might be possible to fit in all 3......

Not going to sit about moping all day...

Christmas shopping is my priority!

I have very little annual leave left due to more than my fair share of childcare dramas over the past few months, so if I can get it all done I can cancel the day off that I've booked and have a day in reserve in case on of our ds's are ill.

striking and demonstrating, my christmas presents are already bought.

I'm taking my kids (and their friend whose mum has to work) up to visit a friend and enjoy my last day off before I start my new job in a private bank. Yep - I'm going to work in a bank and be one of those people who everyone seems to blame for the ills of the modern world :)

I'm marching/demonstrating with the dc

usualsuspect · 28/11/2011 22:06

I'm demonstrating in town ,so may fit in a bit of shopping after

HoneyandHaycorns · 28/11/2011 22:10

Shopping for me :)

But I'm not striking, have just booked annual leave because dd can't go to school.

I'm demonstrating with the 2 youngest in tow (their first demo)

Just need to decide whether I have the energy to do the big London demo, or failing that, spend a couple of hours at the local picket lines and take the kids for tea and buns afterwards.

I demonstrated, got some pj's for everyone for Xmas then rented a DVD which I promptly fell asleep in front of. Dd was in nursery for the day so I took advantage. I did intend to mark some kids work but decided that that was against the strike, so I didn't. I'll have to do it tomorrow on my day off instead.

As a family we demonstrated. Word to 'soonbeforty', you shouldn't have been covering for absent colleagues. Your Union will have sent you guidance on this. NASUWT, the largest teachers' Union is currently undertaking action short of strike action. The aim is to 'claim back the classroom' as too many teachers are being asked to carry out tasks that are not part of their contract. This is creating tired, stressed out teachers. The core function of a teacher is 'teaching and learning' and NASUWT are challenging schools that do not adhere to the statutory contract.

I'm not a teacher, I work for the NHS.
