Just watching Sky's link to Lybia where the Chairman of NTC is addressing a crowd in Benghazi. Just proclaimed that Libya is to adopt sharia as legal basic with all the beauties of rights for women, polygamy, etc.

Is this what the UK was fighting for when supporting the rebels?

Democracy to Libya and human rights my arse!!!!!

feirless with due respect you have no idea what you are talking about. I am originally from Libya and all that Gaddafi did was to wreck the country and impoverish the people. As for Libya and Shariah Law, there are endless interpretations of shariah and you will find no two muslims agree on their understanding of the term. Did you know that ALL Muslim Arab countries in their constitutions include Islam as being the main source of legislation? then if you comapre say Saudi Arabia with Morocco you will see what I mean. Do I worry about how things will eventually turn out? By Golly, I do because Libyans have absolutely no experience with the many practices that we here take for granted. They have been used to only one style of rule and nothing else. It is all good to sit here in a free and democartic society and say look at those Libyans messing it all up , but these people were ruled for 42 years by one man, he was twisted and despotic and we could not utter his name on the phone for fear of being intercepted and detained. My cousin was detained for sending videos of the popular uprising overseas to friends and he now has to undergo back surgery because of the torture he suffered. Do we seriously expect these people who had but one motive in mind when they went out on to the streets and that was to BE FREE, do we seriosuly expect them overnight to turn into a stable, law abiding, idealistic democracy? How long did it take France after the French revolution? How long did it take America after its bitter civil war? or have we forgotten that revolutions actually start after te dictator is toppled?
