Acadamy school status : For or against?

I am totally against. I think they will do nothing to close the gap between good schools and bad schools and the community as a whole will lose out.

This could totally have a negative impact on teachers, parents (as Acadamey schools acn set their own term times etc) and kids alike. I have my doubts that teh SEN intake will dwindle too putting extra pressure on the state non academy schools in the area.

2 State school in my town are seeking Academy status and it is making my blood boil.

Thoughts?

Ensure the school is aware it needs to provide access to the TPS and LGPS and that contributions are collected.
Visit the LGPS website at www.lgps.org.uk to find how to contact your pension fund administrator, or ask your employer.

That's really interesting, thanks Elf.

Longfingernails - I note your list of some advantages, Please could you "flesh out" these with some examples/information? For example - Putting choice in parents' hands, - how will this happen in academies I wonder? and

  • Lower administrative costs - how do academies lower their admin costs?

For, For, For. But we're not getting them in Scotland...

aliceliddell · 05/08/2011 20:21

You're not getting tuition fees either. Or Tory MPs.

ElfHire · 07/08/2011 21:00

Scotland should take their share, (proportionally represented of course) of Westmonster MP's, free schools and academies.

My jury is out on accademies. But I do hear too much of Toby Young on the BBC

Academy schools are going to be good to begin with as they mostly got outstanding Ofsteds to become one in the first place. We shall see as they outstanding headteachers are replaced and then the effectiveness will be truly tested. I imagine with their own budget they have the capacity to be truly great or truly awful and with Ofsted being less and less involved we shall never really know. Also with the Conservatives letting people run free schools etc and giving away control, they have made sure it will never be their problem. I think David Cameron has this idea that the schools will become like mini Etons and everyone will turn out like him! Oh the joy....

Hi Chil - sounds like you heard the R4 programme on Toby earlier Smile. I actually thought it was fascinating. From socialist to Telegraph blogger (via Hollywood). It explained a lot.
