I voted Labour for the first time in my life. I will hold my hands up and say I was taken in by Cameron and his Tory-lite election campaigning and now regret the way I voted. I voted labour as they do a lot locally- we never see the Tory candidate!

Who did you/will you vote for, and why?

I voted for the candidates who live in our estate (green and labour)

Chil1234 · 05/05/2011 11:51

I'm voting for my local Conservative candidate primarily because I know him, he's very visible in the community & he supported my local area when we needed some specific help. The LibDem people are shocking around here... their main man is a terrible liar. And Labour.. well.. no idea who they are because they never bother to canvass.

Ragwort · 05/05/2011 11:52

Lib Dem - mainly because there was not a single Labour candidate where I live Sad.

Yes to AV

aliceliddell · 05/05/2011 11:56

TUSC (Trade Union & Socialist Coalition) and Green because they are the only firm pledge anti-cuts parties.

gingercat12 · 05/05/2011 13:00

I voted for my Labour candidate, whom I know and works very hard. I also campaigned for her.

duckypoo · 05/05/2011 23:58

I voted for the labour candidate, pissing in the wind there tbh, Labour didn't even bother to put up a candidate last year. Can I admit I only voted because I was casting my AV vote, first time I have ever voted in a local election, plus I have no clue who any of the people are Blush.

TheMitfordsMaid · 06/05/2011 00:05

Can I just point out that it isn't that parties can't be bothered to put up a candidate, it is often that they don't have anyone suitable who is willing and able to stand. Being a candidate is a big commitment. We've campaigned every evening and weekend for 3 months, and if we win the elected representative will spend around 20 hours a week on council business. It isn't something to take on lightly, and often work and family commitments just don't allow suitable candidates the option to go for it.

I voted for myself, the Labour candidate.

newportstateofmind · 06/05/2011 00:10

Labour, but it's unlikely to make any difference as we live in such as strong Tory area.

hudspur · 06/05/2011 00:12

I voted Lib Dem and Yes2AV

MavisEnderby · 06/05/2011 00:12

i VOTED FOR NOBODY AND NO ONE.i think this is sad.all through my life as an adult i have voted except actual election and now.I am aware women have died for me to have a vote.I am totally disillusioned.AV appears to be incredibly complex in a random way.Why not proporional nrepresentation as opposed to AV?iT appears to be a weirdly random voting system.wouldve prob gone for PR.

madhattershouse · 06/05/2011 00:13

We only got canvassed by Labour, no posters for any other party in the area. If you came to my town you would think it was a labour stronghold as they have the only visible support!! On the other hand Labours borough councillor has been in place for 8 years ( in Tory safe MP's seat!) and he really works for the area. Do you think the others just don't care, its so safe as a Tory seat for general elections they can't be bothered at a local level??

madhattershouse · 06/05/2011 00:14

I voted for local man ( Labour) and YES to AV! Bring on PR..I hate living in a safe Tory seat!

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 06/05/2011 15:46

I voted for myself and I GOT IN!!!

CatPower · 06/05/2011 16:32

I voted Labour in the Scottish elections, and YES to AV.

ScousyFogarty · 06/05/2011 16:41

Yes to AV and L

Thruaglassdarkly · 06/05/2011 23:13

No to AV because it's wasteful and unfair and would lead to weak government.
Yes to the Tories cos they've been in for ages round here and do a good job. Also the only ones to bother to canvas. I know it was a local election, but I really like Cameron anyway and think he's quite a genuine bloke. Can't stand Labour and Milliband - he'll say anything and re-write history/sell his granny if necessary to get votes. No integrity. Cam campaigned on the basis that they were going to hit us all hard from the off. I know he's cut even more than he said he would, but I think that's because it was worse than he thought. He's the one who was most upfront about the cuts. The others tried to blag it. As politicians go, he's the more honest of the lot of 'em.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/05/2011 00:15

"I really like Cameron anyway and think he's quite a genuine bloke" WHAT?!?!?! Are you joking? You must be joking. Really? Surely a joke?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 08/05/2011 00:19

We had 4 votes, 3 of mine went to the green party and one to labour.

Environmental reasons are my main concern, and we're in the safest tory seat in the country (OK, maybe not, but close enough) and a labour vote is even more pointless than a green vote. Hmm

OP - first time voting labour here too :) I feel like i've seen the light!

TheMitfordsMaid · 09/05/2011 11:42

Dave "genuine bloke" Cameron. Heard it all now.

Driftwood999 · 09/05/2011 14:11

I voted no to AV and Conservative. No to AV because it would not have lead to PR. I really do not understand what Labour stands for these days. Years ago they campaigned to improve the lot of the working class and the trade union movement was a force for good. The welfare state was a safety net. How the founders must be spinning in their graves. I feel that today, the champagne socialists are too keen to spend money that society cannot afford, supporting people that have chosen not to work in some instances. imo Labour has enfeebled this country. I believe that the Conservative model is more compassionate, recognising that people should be cared for, but admitting that wealth has to be generated. People have lived beyond their means and complain when they are asked to take more responsibility for themselves. The resilience of past generations is now lost to a lot of people because of the erosion of personal responsibility.
