Going to the polling station should be compulsory. Voting any particular way or in fact voting at all should not be. An official part of the count is the viewing of spoilt papers by the candidates - so they do see the comments of those who do not see any of them worthy of a vote. (I will be attending a count on 5th May and always look forward to seeing spoilt papers, some of which bear some very witty comments!) Thinking of the people of Syria and Libya would be enough to get me to a polling station if I had to be carried there!
