Hi
I'm doing a bit of research on how/why David Cameron appeals to different groups of people and I'm wondering what people on here think of him. Any responses are greatly appreciated.

  1. Do you believe that David Cameron is personally committed to family life?
  2. If so, has this made you warm to him as a politician?
  3. If not, a) did you ever believe this , and
b) why did you change your mind?

  1. yes he is but only to his own and his cronies family lives, as you can see from his policies all others can go hang.
  1. He was always an obvious fake with his "hug a hoody" and "call me Dave" pesona

See newwave's post.

I honestly can't believe people fell for his claptrap.

He's a Tory, they do what it says on the tin, always have, always will.

Duh.

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. Though he is a natural at the "business" of being Prime Minister (like Tony Blair), and can take gutsy decisions when he has to - he is far too consensual and not nearly willing enough to really destroy the institutions which give comfort and solace to the Labour party (such as the unions, and the Guardian). Still, he has broadly the right idea on the economy, and best of all, he's not Gordon Brown. His family life doesn't interest me in the slightest when it comes to political judgements, although Florence is a very cute little girl.
Shoesytwoesy · 18/04/2011 22:34

!) no, he uses his family to get votes
2) no
3) yes
4) I realized he was a con man and now the hate him more then any other PM there has ever been

coolascucumber · 18/04/2011 22:38

1)His policies attack the family. He does not understand how ordinary people live.

  1. Can't stand him. He is evil with a smiling face.

  2. NO

  3. N/A

  1. Newwave beat to me to it there - purely to his own type of family life. He may have some confused ideals under all that, but what he is doing, is putting additional stress on anyone who is in avulnerable position and making it harder for them to give their children a decent family life.
  1. a) I considered during the canvassing phase whether he genuinely had ideals and principles about supporting families - I think I briefly misinterpreted the sense of outrage he felt that he and his ilk were not already running the country,as a sense of outrage about the very raw deal some people in the UK have to live with.
  1. b) I remain unsure whether he genuinely doesnt care about the impact his decisions are having on families, or if he is simply out of touch (never really had a clue) and just likes his Big Ideas but lacks the reasoning ability to see what they translate to, in terms of peoples' actual lives.

  1. Do you believe that David Cameron is personally committed to family life?
  • yes his family life
  1. If so, has this made you warm to him as a politician?
  • no his personal life is none of my business and not that relevant to his job
  1. If not, a) did you ever believe this , and
  • I am sure he is quite the family man who should have stayed doing some other job

b) why did you change your mind?

MavisEnderby · 18/04/2011 22:43

What Newwave said.

(though I did feel sorry for him when his son died)

sfxmum · 18/04/2011 22:43

I should add I think he will likely be an effective prime minister and achieve his goals

MadameBoo · 18/04/2011 23:09

1.I'm sure he loves his own family.
2.no
3.a) and b) n/a

cinnamontoast · 18/04/2011 23:10
  1. No doubt he's committed to his own family on a personal level. Can't see that he gives a damn about anyone else's.
  1. Nothing could make me warm to him as a politician - though before the election I thought there was a chance he might be a marginally less blinkered, damaging and offensive breed of Tory than Thatcher's lot. How wrong I was.
  1. There was a brief time after the death of his son/before the election when he talked about the NHS and families of disabled children as if he actually cared. Now we know he didn't.
NoTimeLikeThePresent · 19/04/2011 05:35
  1. I hope that he cares for his own family and he likely cares for the families within his immediate social circle. For anyone else'sfamily he appears to have an enormous callous disregard.
  1. I think that he is a shallow charming psychopath like many successful men.

3a. I freely and unconditionally loathe the man.

3b. N/A

HarrietJones · 19/04/2011 07:17

shmoz · 19/04/2011 07:58

He is considering wearing a lounge suit to the ROYAL WEDDING.
The man is an utter tit.

Chil1234 · 19/04/2011 08:07

I have no idea what goes on in Cameron's family life (or any other politician for that matter) and prefer to judge elected representatives on their actions in any case. So far I understand most of what he's doing and am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt that his team is on the right track. Unlike some world leaders, I don't cringe when he opens his mouth at international events.

mamatomany · 19/04/2011 08:11

I voted Conservative and i cannot stand him

QuickLookBusy · 19/04/2011 08:17

What has his family life got to do with what kind of PM he is OP?

Leave his family out of it.

nepenthe3 · 19/04/2011 08:20

The whole 'tone' he has set for his party, speeches, presentation is patronising. I can't see past this and his 'school prefect' persona. I did not vote this man in but I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. He sinks further down in my estimation on a daily basis. So I can't answer the questions in the OP, sorry, and it seems irrelevant to his ability (or inability) to do the job in hand.
