All I could find was it was starting in Oct 2013. Sorry if this is old news I am usually behind.

News to me although if the Tories are going to "experiment" as they did with the poll tax in Scotland they wont do it in England (to many Tory voters to anger if it goes wrong)

Rather than listen to scaremongering and gossip you could always read the White Paper on Universal Credit and understand the details from the horse's mouth. There has been no specific mention made of Wales or any other region being used to test the new system.

I think the change in emphasis of the benefit system from one that effectively pays people to do nothing, to one that pays people to get back into work is an important one. A single capped income stream based on circumstances also seems to be a more manageable approach than the current forest of application forms for bits and pieces coming from here, there & everywhere.

I agree in principle Chil1234, I agree with getting people out to work, but I would be pissed if it was a front to lower WTC and CTC for people who work but are on a lower wage in order to avoid public backlash. but if they intend to do what is outlined in the policy then it may be much better. If WTC and CTC are to be lowered it should be done openly IMO. So I shall wait and see it does seem promising though and would cut admin costs.
