Having taken the kids to a local carnival against cuts demo in Lewisham with snow whites on scooters theme (in the rain) I really want the chance to march in central London safely!

Surely a throng(what is the collective noun for parents on a demo?)of pissed of parents and kids is unkettleable?

Of course this is not for everyone, so if you dont think people should take kids to demos - stay at home - sign some web petitions!

In Lewisham our Early Years stuff is getting decimated and privitised. Council run Nursery fees up 43% (no joke)- oh its ok - they have given us one months notice!

Anyway - all over the country families will be worse of , less money, poorer services.

Enough for me to feel angry.

Do you want yay sayers? I would be one if I still lived in the UK. I'd be at the march like a shot and have advertised it on here.

Where I live we have our fair share of strife too and it's a global protest now against the creaky, corrupt corpse of capitalism. So I can't be there in person but will be in spirit.

Hope you get to organise a kettling proof group of parents!

I'm hoping to go - shan't have any children in tow though, I'm in my 50s and so theoretically my age and decrepitude'll help highlight the sleazeball nature of kettling if they do it to a group of mums, children and older folk. I don't suppose your proposed group has to be just mums and children?

I wonder how Lawyers for Justice and Liberty are getting on with bringing a court case to prove the sort of random entrapment the police practise, is a human rights violation.

There's a "buggy bloc"

26 March · 11:30 - 15:30
Meeting point Victoria Embankment Gardens
More info
Nearest tube station - Embankment District and Circle lines

Meandering from Embankment to Hyde Park
Babies and buggy boarders, spread the word... kids against cuts being seen and heard!

Hi. I'm new here. To be honest, I joined specifically to ask and invite people to come to the March 26th demo in London against the cuts and privatisation.

I see that some details about the event have already been shared.

What does the turnout from Mumsnet look like it's going to be?

If anyone needs help in getting transport to London, there are transport details available here:

www.pcs.org.uk/en/campaigns/campaign-events/march-for-the-alternative--london-saturday-26-march.cfm

The PCS union is helping to provide transport. If you click on the link above and select your area, there'll be information for (usually) free transport in to London on the day.

Hope to see many of you there! Looks like it's going to be huge! Over a half million are expected.

Taking Kids on political demonstrations is rather a good case of indoctrination. If they are old enough (15+) and have a a political view totally unbiased due to the parent, then sure, bring them along. Otherwise it's just wrong. Wine

glasnost · 21/03/2011 14:45

No it's not wrong seeing as KIDS are going to be the primary victims of the vicious unnecessary ideologically driven cuts. This isn't about political views. It's about justice.

mrsdennisleary · 22/03/2011 17:28

Agree glasnost. Our kids' chances of a university education have been stolen by this government. It is in their interests to show that there is an alternative to Osborne's cuts, Clegg's lies and Cameron's all it together rubbish.

I will be there with our kids.

MilaMae · 23/03/2011 10:02

It's not wrong if you explain what it's for and ask if they would like to take part.

My kids are only 7,7 and 6 but really understood the student thing. They saw some of it on TV.I don't think we give kids enough credit to be frank.

They really wanted to go as they love London and they wanted to make a placard Blush but the safety issue worries me.Babies you can pick up and run if needs be but with kids my 3 ages I'd be worried they'd get crushed and would get lost if kettled.

I think it's wrong that kids are bullied out of protesting when they are the ones who will be the most affected by all these cuts.

glasnost · 23/03/2011 11:53

More kiddies and parents there are less chance of kettling type crowd containment there will be. The police can be seen to mistreat student types as the tabloids deride them but NOT kids.

GastonTheLadybird · 23/03/2011 11:57

I like the idea of taking my child to something like this but the reality is I am too scared! Even if there isn't kettling, some of the people who go to protests like this cause a lot of trouble.

glasnost · 23/03/2011 16:12

You mean the police? Wink

Jaquelinehyde · 23/03/2011 16:24

My mobility is so poor at the moment I'm not able to come which I am really sad about. I shall be there in spirit though.

KatharineClifton · 23/03/2011 18:53

There's a 'buggy bloc' arranged for Saturday www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=198225986862286&index=1 Also there will be a tent/facilities for people with children in Hyde Park.

Other blocks are here including a women's block: politicaldynamite.com/2011/03/26-march-whats-your-plan/

NotGlynisAnymore · 23/03/2011 18:56

For those of us who are not able to go in person on Saturday, if you'd like to be involved online, search 'Armchair Army' on facebook, lots of activity there too

GothMummy · 25/03/2011 14:41

Thanks for the info on the buggy block. Our whole family is going (including grandparents) and I was getting a little nervous about being very pregnant with small children on a demo and had pretty much decided not to go because of my worries about safety. Though I used to go to lots in my youth and never had problems it looks like protests are getting more violent these days.

halfyorkshiremanhalfessexgirl · 25/03/2011 20:25

buggy bloc hurray! See you down there.

Fancy dress for the kids makes them think its a party. Oh, and crisps.

We did the lewisham march in the rain so I'm so looking forward to tomorrow.
