and ps its pissing me off .... what a self indulgent bunch we are if we can't bother to watch this and then bang on stupidly about anything to do with the middle east or even worse paranoia about the very 'word' muslem
when they read it in the papers

There has been a few threads but I guess since its not directly related to parenting then its not really going to be the main topic here.

I've been also hooked. I guess I have more of a personal stake since I've visited Cairo regularly last year and have grown to know a lot of the people there.

I've been really impressed with how things have gone but at the same time scared about how a prolonged demonstration would affect the economy. Already my company is pulling work away from Egypt and our big customers reviewing their involvement too.

I've also been in awe at the dedication of our staff who despite being told not to turn up to work for their own safety, many have ignored that and turned up with food, water & ready to stay in the office for a few days.

I'm SO glad that the army have spoken out that they will not use force. I think this pretty much is the end of Mubarak and I can only pray that he leaves soon and an orderly transition follows in his wake.

Shallishanti · 31/01/2011 21:18

yes, really good news about the army

fingers crossed for 'go home friday' or whatever they are calling it!

Rather than being so condescending towards MN members as an islamophobic 'self-indulgent bunch' ... there's quite a big thread on the Egyptian situation in the 'News' section already.

Omarlittlest. The correct spelling is MUSLIM.
Most won't be jumping for joy, if the Muslim Brotherhood take power will they?, especially the Coptic Christians!

Chil1234 · 02/02/2011 13:17

Ah... the 'Animal Farm' conundrum. Get rid of one nasty dictator only to have him replaced with ... an even nastier one. The people may get rid of the president but will they get democracy now? Hope they don't end up like Iran.

mee2 · 04/02/2011 17:41

These are not pro-democracy demonstrators. You all need to look closer. Mubarak has brutally kept down the muslim brotherhood for decades. if they get in, ywe'll all see why

ilovemyhens · 05/02/2011 21:49

It's a case of be careful what you wish for Hmm

AuraofDora · 05/02/2011 22:04

comlimentary.. the muslim brotherhood wont take power, america wont let them
it will be sulieman, the bloke who has been in charge of internal terror security who is tipped to take over ..once Mubarak finally accepts what has happened

so very proud of all the arab peoples for the stand and change they are making for themselves

AspieDad · 05/02/2011 23:25

OK, first Tunisia, then Egypt, where next?

If it kicks of in Saudi Arabia then it will very quickly become a topic everyone talks about because anything that affects the price of oil affects us all.

When oil goes up we get a recession, job losses, bills not paid etc.

Violence in Middle Eastern countries is generally not a good idea.
