Undercover Police Officers - in the student riots?

I was just wondering in the light of hearing about undercover poice officers in environmental demonstrations, G20 etc. I wonder if there were any undersover oficers in the recent student demonstrations in London? Was it in the Police's interests for the demonstrations to turn into a riot so that they could control the demonstrators via kettles etc? Wouldn't be surprised if we were to find out that undercover Officers are involved in student politics.

When police traditionally come off worst in any riot situation I do not see why they would want to deliberately engineer a riot. A peaceful protest is much easier to police.

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 20:16

There will be spotters who will identify and track those intent on violence, the same at any football match.

You are deluded if you think that the police would incite violence.

frankie3 · 26/01/2011 20:18

Yes I agree. But politically it was better for the students to be shown as violent rioters than as mature sensible demonstrators, as people then have less sympathy for the students.

If the students have violent rioters among them, then they will show themselves naturally without an agent provocateur. Police simply investigate and gather material to show what is happening -nothing more sinister than that.

Chil1234 · 26/01/2011 20:26

We know from various news reports that all kinds of disconnected groups latched onto the student protest intent on getting into a scrap. The police were criticised initially for not having adequate information and not anticipating that the first protest would turn nasty. I don't think one rogue eco-copper should be extrapolated as the template for correct undercover police practice.

complimentary · 26/01/2011 20:48

As far as i was aware, protests/marches always have undercover police. Years ago, they pretended to be the press, when taking your photo. Now they are quite blatant, as uniformed coppers. I believe they always have undercover police. Most airports have them, I spoke to few whilst waiting to board my plane.

I don't think they would engineer a riot, but they are certainly there I'm sure.

newwave · 26/01/2011 22:35

You are deluded if you think that the police would incite violence.

Scurry, now that is funny, tell that to Peach and Tomlinson, tell that to the innocent guy shot during a raid on a house in Forest Gate, London, they then tired to say he had kiddy porn (untrue) on his computer.

Tell that to Menzies who was shot through the head whilst being restrained.

Tell that to the student who had his skull cracked and then the Police tried to stop him receiving medical treatment.

Tell that to all the prisoners who have died in Police custody, of course not one of the many deaths was down to the Police, yeah right.

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 22:36

Yeah, yeah, yeah, same old, same old newwave.

newwave · 26/01/2011 22:41

Yeah, yeah, yeah, same old, same old TRUTH newwave.

Please refute my points if you can, but I doubt it.

Your not one of the plods are you?

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 22:42

You haven't included the nasty police officer who stopped you cycling in a pedestrianised street in 1983 have you?

newwave · 26/01/2011 22:48

Scurry, reading your replies bullshit meter is going off the scale. Still nice to see as always you have no answers.

It was the plod who refused (when I was a Hunt sabber) to arrest a hunt follower for violent conduct (which he saw) towards a mate and then threatened to arrest me for calling him a bent bastard.

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 22:55

And........?

newwave · 26/01/2011 23:01

And........? and you are full of crap and cannot back up anything you say. Keep on posting rubbish and as a public good I will keep on (if I am not to busy) showing you the vast error of your ways.

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 23:11

You know what you are absolutely right. Why did I think we need police when we have you to show people the error of their ways.

A few incidents where individuals have either acted outside the law or indeed not seen to have acted unlawfully at all makes the whole police service invalid.

Ok. Night night.

Niceguy2 · 26/01/2011 23:14

Get a room! Wink

newwave · 26/01/2011 23:18

You are deluded if you think that "the police" would incite violence.

"The police" can be 1 or 10 or 1000

Who said it made the "whole police service invalid" I just think that there are far more "wrong uns" than many people think.

"or indeed not seen to have acted unlawfully at all" yeah well the Police, CPS, coroners etc do buy whitewash in bulk when it comes to the Police doing wrong.

And goodnight to you.

newwave · 26/01/2011 23:19

Get a room!

Sounds like a plan :o

catinthehat2 · 26/01/2011 23:22

I think you're my new favourite comedy poster newwave

you are very very good at this stuff

right on!

newwave · 26/01/2011 23:31

Cat, thank you, thank you, I would have been even more pleased if you had acknowledged the truth, accuracy and veracity of my posts.

Still i cant have it all so again my sincere thanks to you and may I convey my admiration for your sensible instincts in regard to my superior intellect.

:) :)

One small thing regarding the "comedy" I doubt Tomlinson or Peach would find it "funny" but I must not quibble.

catinthehat2 · 26/01/2011 23:34

there are whispers about the concreted student tho' - gone a bit quiet sinc ethe frindly fire rumours started, are you aware of those?

newwave · 26/01/2011 23:36

Cat, sorry but those rumours have not crossed my radar. Maybe Wikeleaks will have some info, you never know.

catinthehat2 · 26/01/2011 23:39

it might not be as 'straightforward' as Ian T is all

newwave · 26/01/2011 23:45

'straightforward', It was very straightforward but deliberate obscuration and foot dragging muddied the waters which was very convenient for the authorities.

Note how quickly everyone sprung into action when Camilla got a prod.

complimentary · 27/01/2011 11:17

Newwave. A copper nearly had you arrested for calling him a "bent copper?" was that before or after you stuck the stick up his backside? He should have arested you for your language!

I cannot believe with your flowery language you were not highly provocative!
If I was a rider I would have ridden over you with my finely bred Arab! Grin

dotnet · 06/02/2011 12:06

Slightly off the topic of undercover police officers (but along the same lines) - it looked to me on Nov 24, when a police van was left in the middle of the 'kettle' - THAT was definitely meant to provoke. Looked as if the police WANTED film footage of vandalism, to 'justify' the millions expended on helicopters, horses, vans and thousands of riot plods.

And to 'justify' their False Imprisonment of thousands of people.

It would have been EASY to have driven the van away when the kettle was forming - I could have done it myself (if I could drive)!
