I'm not talking policies necessarily - just who do you secretly like despite them being the spawn of Satan?

Me - Labour supporter/member, and I have a real soft spot for Ken Clarke. He seems like an affable sort of chap who I'd enjoy a meal with. Ditto William Hague - I've always been fond of young William.

Claig, longfingernails etc - who would you happily spend an evening with from the Labour party?

I have a liking for dead Tories does that count :o

Niceguy2 · 05/01/2011 23:03

I'm a natural Tory supporter but I have to say I secretly like John Prescott.

He's a plain talker and not afraid to fight back.....literally!

I also quite liked Blair. Whilst i didn't agree with the whole Iraq war at all, I admire the way he managed to change the Labour party from a stupid backward socialist bunch of union numpties into a modern party who understood that people are not wrong to have aspirations. I'd love to spend an evening having dinner with him chewing the fat so to speak (and no I dont mean John Prescott!)

Nosnowplease · 05/01/2011 23:03

Labour supporter here.
Also like ken Clarke and William Hague. I love the reinvented Michael portillo on this week. John Major seems like a nice chap.

Meglet · 05/01/2011 23:04

Ken Clarke.

vesela · 05/01/2011 23:18

I like Ed Miliband. And David Cameron, for that matter.

huddspur · 05/01/2011 23:20

I like Diane Abbott, David Blunkett and Peter Mandelson.
From the Tories I like Ken Clarke and John Major

UnquietDad · 05/01/2011 23:27

I don't actually support any one party tribally (something which irritates a lot of my friends and colleagues who don't get it). But I like Tony Benn, Charlie Kennedy and Sayeeda Warsi.

From across the pond, I could never in a million years support Sarah Palin but I'd love to spend a week doing filthy things with her.

Hassled · 06/01/2011 09:56

UQD, I find that deeply unsettling Shock.

I'd forgotten about Portillo - yes, I like him too. And I sort of like Boris, although it sticks in my throat to admit it.

LadyBlaBlah · 06/01/2011 10:31

I like Boris, but then he is a bit of a reject from the Tories at the moment.

Trying to think of some more Tories I like...................erm, erm.......................................................................................erm...........................................................it's hard this, isn't it?..................................................at a push I might say David Davis - stands firm in his beliefs - criticised condems for tuition fees, child benefit etc.

KangarooCaught · 06/01/2011 10:42

Cons: Ken Clarke, Cameron, Boris, Widdy (used to be my MP), Portillo, Hague

Lab: Blair, Red Ken (even if he does sound like Henry's Cat), Frank Field

UnquietDad · 06/01/2011 12:39

Does Widdy still live in Sutton Valence, kanga? I used to go through there every day on the way to school.

None of them! But I once had a very dirty dream about Tony Blair and I seemed to be enjoying myself at the time Blush - does that count?

longfingernails · 06/01/2011 20:14

Frank Field, John Hutton.

From the left of Labour, on a "personality only" standpoint, Diane Abbott and Tony Benn.

From the Lib Dems, David Laws.

NewYearNewPants · 06/01/2011 20:18

I also quite like the 'new' Portillo. I never thought I'd say that back in '97 Grin. Boris makes me laugh sometimes, but most of the time I am astounded at his dimwittery.

I don't think there's a single Tory in the current government I'd give the time of day, to, though.

complimentary · 06/01/2011 21:39

Newyearnewpants. Portillo? are ou sure he'd like you? Grin From what what I hear he'd go for Andrew Neil rather than you!

claig · 06/01/2011 21:57

I thought Bob Marshall-Andrews was great. It seemed to me that he had integrity. But I think he is no longer a Labour MP, I think he was defeated by the Tories.

I can't think of any other Labour MPs that are anywhere near him. Inspite of many people disliking Prescott, I thought he was pretty good, if you ignored all his global warming guff. He was very good on the TV programme where he met a young girl from a rough estate. He got on well with her, invited her to the House of Commons, and didn't patronise her. She was very intelligent and appreciated it.

BerkshireMum · 06/01/2011 22:04

Frank Field and Meg Hillier

TCOB · 06/01/2011 22:07

Watching Portillo pottering around in empty rail carriages is making me disproportionately happy at 6.30 each weeknight at the moment...

TheFarSide · 06/01/2011 22:08

As a Labour voter, I really like Michael Portillo.

BerkshireMum · 06/01/2011 22:15

Frank Field and Meg Hillier

ItsGrimUpNorth · 06/01/2011 22:15

I too warmed to Portillo. I saw him on lots of T.V. shows and he seemed to have become warmer, kinder, much less arrogant and human somehow.

I liked Ann Widdecombe until I heard her very shrill and shrieky defense of her expenses as an M.P. Not that she'd done anything illegal mind, I just found her talking in a hyper hysterical about it.

I'm wondering about Boris. Is he really a true Tory? He seems far more maverick to belong to any defined tribe. I like him. I'd definitely have him over for tea and stollen over Ken.

And who's the Tory chap who was brought up on a council estate by his single mother? I quite like him. He seems to have a spot of common sense.

But generally, I think most Tories are numpties who like to suffocate aspiration amongst the British people.

claig · 06/01/2011 22:18

I tend to like genuine people who have integrity. That's why i can't think of many Labour politicians in that category. But I am genuinely surprised that no Labour supporters have mentioned Gove and Osborne, two genuine politicians with undoubted integrity, values which are as rare as hen's teeth on the Labour benches.

TCOB · 06/01/2011 22:20

Because they are both loathsome twats perhaps?

claig · 06/01/2011 22:20

'And who's the Tory chap who was brought up on a council estate by his single mother?'

That's David Davis. The Tory benches are packed solid with people full of integrity like him.
