What has he done in those 100 days? Nothing, as far as I can tell.

He has no policies on anything, no idea about how Labour would cut the deficit other than the same tired old cliches of "tax the banks".

He has shamelessly and irresponsibly opposed every single spending cut and tax rise to pay necessary to pay for the decade of Labour profligacy.

He still has absolutely no answer to that most fundamental of questions: What Would You Do?

When will he get a grip?

My problem is with your incorrect assumptions that being foreign is synonymous with scrounging - which is a slang and derogatory word that means someone who mooches or cadges. You have chosen to ignore the true facts about how many foreigners come into this country and actually claim benefit and instead perpetuate myths that suit your personal feelings about outsiders.

As your own linked report points out, it is an irrelevance of a finding because unless you are prepared to say that all white people are scroungers too (because they came out pretty badly in comparison to all groups except one), then your 'foreign scroungers' argument carries no weight. Confused

longfingernails · 03/01/2011 22:17

I would apply the same tests to EU immigrants, Australian immigrants, Chinese immigrants, Iraqi immigrants, Brazilian immigrants, American immigrants, and all other immigrants.

I really do resent being called racist.

I think all benefit scroungers are a drain on society, and should be shamed into making themselves useful. Native scroungers (whatever their ethnicity) are included.

I do think, however, that it is particularly stupid to import scroungers from abroad.

I never said that all foreigners were scroungers. I said that Labour imported millions of foreign scroungers. Many of them will be white, and from the EU. Admittedly, I don't have figures at hand to back up the "millions". I also said that I want more immigrants^.

newwave What have I said which is racist?

LFN, I said that I did not think you were. I also think that the accusation of racism is to easily used as a "debate stopper". Having a negative view of immigration is not in itself racist.

longfingernails · 03/01/2011 22:31

I don't have a negative view of immigration. I have a positive view of immigration.

I want more immigrants. Lots more immigrants.

The right immigrants though. Yes to doctors, lawyers, bankers, professors, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists. No to plumbers, welders and electricians. Especially no to scroungers.

Bankers! no thanks we have enough of our own economy destroyers and overpaid self indulgent scumbags.

"We are all in this together" except the bankers of course and they were responsible for a large part of the collapse.

A few need to be imprisoned to send a message to the others to stop living their pockets at societies expense.

Fred the shred, I would settle for Fred the dead. The man destroyed lives and jobs but made sure he was well rewarded for faliure.

longfingernails · 03/01/2011 23:11

Rewarding failure is stupid. No banks should be too big to fail - being allowed to fail is an essential part of capitalism.

At the same time, we are world leaders in financial services. That gives us all sorts of ancillary benefits. Why not maximise that advantage?

Furthermore, banking is one industry where having the right person is crucial. One banker can easily make hundreds of millions pounds more profit than the next, purely because of their ability. It is important that the best bankers in the world come to London.

Bashing banks and bankers for no purpose is very counterproductive. Of course, regulations should ensure that risks are properly controlled and monitored - but we should encourage a healthy financial services.

We shouldn't impose big unilateral bank taxes and controls. We should push for global (or at least G20 level) controls though.

Bankers need to be imprisoned? Hmm, what exactly have bankers done that is against the law and that warrants a custodial sentence.

newwave · 03/01/2011 23:45

Not all, some, how about them being far more closely investigated for fraudulent behaviour instead of the whitewash now going on.

huddspur · 03/01/2011 23:47

Have they committed fraud though (I genuinely don't know). The banks were poorly run that is beyond doubt but running a business badly isn't a criminal offence

newwave · 04/01/2011 00:03

Have they committed fraud though (I genuinely don't know). Neither do I but I doubt if a Tory government will investigate it very far. At least the USA have the right idea when it comes to dodgy business dealings.

huddspur · 04/01/2011 00:05

Won't it be up to the fraud divisions of the police to decide how much investigation is done. They have operational independence from the Government

Dont be naive, BA systems comes to mind and that was a labour government, the Tories will be even more likely to cover up "big business" wrongdoing as most of them or their families are part of it.

byrel · 04/01/2011 00:25

Newwave- You seem quite paranoid about the Conservatives, if there is fraud in the city then I think police will investigate it. Like you I don't know if there was any fraud but I would have thought if it were large and widespread then some allegations would have come out along with the other revelations about practices in the City

newwave · 04/01/2011 00:38

byrel. Dont be naive, BA systems comes to mind and that was a labour government, the Tories will be even more likely to cover up "big business" wrongdoing as most of them or their families are part of it. All governments are in the pockets of big business and Murdoch.

As for paranoid i treat Tories as i would a rabid dog, it may not bite me but I can be sure it will bite someone.

I hate Tories with a passion that was forged in the days of Thatcher and her vile gang.

Thatcher destroyed lives, caused deaths, increased poverty and did not give a flying fuck, I hope the bitch burns in hell.

Newwave. Ever thought of having anger management sessions? It could also help you with your unwarranted/paranoia/hostility towards the Tory party?

I say this in the spirit of a constructive and kind act, we may be polls apart politically, but I understand the anger that can destroy lives............Sad
