I was at a mumsnet meet last week, talking about how bollocks feminism was, and reciting that i consider myself as a woman to be a socialist.

Simply tell 'SOMEONE' that you're modelling your definition socialism on the previous administration & current Shadow Cabinet.... and that, as soon as you can afford it, you'll be augmenting your cleaning staff with a cook, chauffeur and gardeners. Redistributing your wealth nicely!

Are you an equal-opportunities employer? Do you have a contract with your cleaner giving good wages and conditions? Do you ensure a safe and pleasant working environment, appropriate meal breaks, and all required health and safety equipment?

Of course you can be a socialist with a cleaner. Why ever not?

'From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.' If your abilities don't lie in cleaning (mine certainly don't, though sadly I don't have a cleaner), then why on earth sjouldn't you have a cleaner - you're paying them for something they've chosen to do - what's wrong with that?

Equally, I do things other people can't/won't do - teach people things - because that's where my abilities lie.

There is nothing 'wrong' with cleaning - it's neither better or worse than teaching, say, just different. I don't feel put upon if somone pays me for teaching - even if it's hard work sometimes. That's my choice.

I agree with granted. Why take the view that anyone can keep things clean and therefore we should do it all ourselves or live in filth? It simply isn't true - some people are better at it than others... either that, or my dh is genuinely lazy, not hopeless with no common sense and an unbelievable immune system!...

Our hospitals got into the filthy state they are now in because we pay the people with one of the most important jobs in the hospital virtually nothing to do it and look down on them for not being able to find a better paid job. Funnily enough, that results in it not being done properly. Why the lack of respect?
